If you think something can be dismantled and later reassembled, and still be the same thing as before it was dismantled, then why wouldn't it be?

Suppose both of these ships exist at the same time. Which is the original ship? Is either?

The answer is, of course, that it depends. Identity is just a convenience, something we impose on the world to make sense of it. Those atoms don't care what they are.

The famous Ship of Theseus thought experiment demonstrates how the concept of identity is mutable.

It goes something like this: suppose every part of a ship is replaced, one by one, until none of the original parts remain. Is it the same ship? Most people would say so.

Let's say someone else keeps each part as it is removed, and then uses them to build a ship to exactly the original specification. Is it the same ship?

WinSCP calls its temporary files scp#### where # are numbers. Every time it asks me if it's okay to delete one, I want to go and look up containment procedures.

I'm pretty sure I'm an infohazard. A few people have ended up getting very into tails as a result of knowing me.

Further news on the Thursday outbreak. The decision to perform a controlled release of Friday to displace Thursday was taken with full knowledge of the risks. Unfortunately, control has been lost and Friday is now spreading unchecked. The chair of the advisory board has submitted her resignation.

Simulations show a >90% chance it will develop into Saturday if control cannot be reestablished. We advise you to make all appropriate preparations.

In case anyone has forgotten, Lenovo is the same company that deliberately shipped malware on its laptops that fundamentally broke HTTPS in order to show ads to their customers.

I usually don't read the federated timeline. Sometimes I do, at which point I am reminded why I usually don't read the federated timeline.

I sort of understand prayer, in my own way. I definitely get wanting to have a stern word with the management and/or manufacturer.
