just now managed to get access to my steam account again after losing my phone

good reminder to buy DRM-free as much as possible! itchi.io, humble, etc or if you buy on steam look for the DRM-free mark so you can launch the game from the .exe if you lose your account for some reason

a thing i'm learning trying to pitch mastodon to friends: you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it follow anyone or have any meaningful interactions

i feel like so many people have gotten so used to having content just laid out in front of them they've forgotten what it was like to actually go out and make internet friends before the term "social media" was a thing

i don't know that there's a solution here and tbh I'm not sure I want there to be one? i frankly love the level of interaction here and it's frustrating to see people complaining about self-inflicted problems but you can't force someone to interact

is there a reason the "look inside" on an instance's about page shows the federated timeline instead of the local timeline? i feel like especially on smaller instances i don't really get a chance to see anything about what that particular instance is like
