    3. The Battle of Athens (sometimes called the McMinn County War)

...a rebellion led by citizens in Athens and Etowah, Tennessee, United States, against the local government in August 1946. The citizens, including some World War II veterans, accused the local officials of predatory policing, police brutality, political corruption and voter intimidation.

    4. Harlan County War

The Harlan County War, or Bloody Harlan, was a series of coal mining-related skirmishes, executions, bombings, and strikes (both attempted and realized) that took place in Harlan County, Kentucky, during the 1930s. The incidents involved coal miners and union organizers on one side and coal firms and law enforcement officials on the other.

Three generations ago people in the Appalachian mountains were effectively slaves that dug coal so Edison and Westinghouse could grow rich keeping the East Coast in electricity. My grandfather ran away when he was 16, lied about his age and joined the Navy during WWII. His father had forced him to quit school in eighth grade to work in the mines. His words were, "after working in the mines for 2 years, being a 50 cal gunner during war was a small price to pay to escape."

Amazing history from a part of the country that doesn't get enough respect. The people of West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky have been willing to put their lives on the line for what they believe in time and time again. Why aren't these events part of American history education for our school children? I'm sure kids in the region learn this, but the rest of the country is clueless. Thanks for sharing these stories! Wow.

Here's a few more stories you may not have ever heard of from around my neck of the woods...

    1. The Battle of Matewan (also known as the Matewan massacre) was a shootout in the town of Matewan in Mingo County and the Pocahontas Coalfield mining district, in southern West Virginia. It occurred on May 19, 1920 between local coal miners and the Baldwin–Felts Detective Agency.

This sounds like it's made for cinema. Poor minder and small town. Sheriff who's in love with the Mayor's wife. Big corporations. Hired thugs. Who killed the mayor? Sheriff marries the mayor's wife after. Big shoot out. Sheriff assassinated a year later by brother seeking revenge. Wow! And, you're right, I've never heard of this.

There have been days, I shamefully admit, that I jump over the donation segment. Not to many though! As you donating none_douchebags make the show continue.

Now though I'm on the second anniversary show listening to every donation made. It's actually fun to listen to. Keep up the great work @adam and @Johncdvorak you guys provide incredible value, value to be returned one day.

Wanneer je weer eens in Nederland bent zou een meet up in Rotterdam wel gaaf zijn Adam. Just saying.

Bought a new monitor, and I have to spend about 5 minutes turning it on and off, plugging and unplugging it from my Mac, and closing and opening the laptop lid just to get it to work.

I love that we're off building AI to pilot spaceships or whatever, and yet basic shit like projectors and monitors and printers still don't work worth a damn

How about this for a civil and gracious protest? Not sure how effective it was in the grand scheme of things, but how could you oppose this?

Yo, Bought gas in Cali at $2.71/gal on our way out. Here on the right coast, it's almost the same price. Most of the way across the country we averaged about $2.17 a gallon. The lowest price we paid is $1.99. These were cash/debit card prices. Credit cards added bout a nickel per gallon.

Over 3500 miles of travel across the US we didn't see one placard that read: We Accept Bitcoin, in any commercial establishment. Could be cuz Lamborghini dealers are few and far between 😎 @yukiame in 3, 2, 1

My students (who are 18-20) had never heard the joke that Al Gore invented the internet!

Now playing them the CNN interview where it "happened" and the debate where Bush says Al Gore invented the calculator! ITM!
