Glad I could help with the installfest! Did that Ubuntu-Mate install on the HP desktop ever happen? What did I miss? Turns out, I could have hung a few more minutes; the ride was running a bit late.

So far, gave away a few things, but, there's plenty left! We have a couple folks here, trying to put #Ubuntu-Mate onto something that originally had Win 10. I do not foresee problems.

Apache would crash and not be restarted automatically. System logging was regularly erroring out, which didn't harm anything but it was a hint that something was afoot.

So far, I've not had noticible problems with systemd; what sort of troubles have you had? That said, if I were to encounter some trouble, I'd have a hard time sorting it out. SysV Init looks a lot simpler. I know that Void uses something called Runit. In the little time I've played with this, I noticed situations where services would try to start before other, needed things, were ready. Upstart never gave me trouble, when I was using those old Ubuntus.

On Sunday, Aug 25, I am helping with a #GNU #Linux installfest in the Boston MA area. There are some computers needing life restoration and good homes. I'll bring many distros, all suitable for hardware that is not quite as powerful as mine. *smiling* I hope I can share some of what I've learned from all this tinkering.

No laptop should have an expiration date. For the sake of your freedom and to guard against needless electronic waste, avoid Google Chromebooks: https://u.fsf.org/2wb

Progress bar: 66% hahaha. Not surprised to hear, updating a netbook is slow going.

There's life in those lil netbooks, yet! I have two 10-inch laptops; those are very light.

My mom sent me an early birthday present--the Sanjean PRD-17. It's an AM-FM portable radio, designed for the visually-impaired. It features tactile markings on the controls, and spoken prompts for all actions. I've had the thing a couple of days, and like it. As I promised some friends and family, I recorded an audio "tour" of the radio.

Per suggestion of a friend, I installed his #Debian package called Dbus Broker into a machine running Bullseye, for improved perrformance, especially re: orca and web browsers. He also included a new build of atspi2-core, with dbus broker support. Indications are that the dbus broker service is running, and communication between atspi2-core and the broker are happening. I notice no performance changes, yet. More testing needs be done.
