I designed Adam Curry's "podfather" logo for iTunes when they launched podcasts on the platform. I listened to DSC a bunch and even submitted content to it. I submitted music tracks to Adam's "Podsafe" network (and some were even used, which was thrilling).

So yea, watching them both decay into these conspiracy Morlocks makes me sad on many levels.

@mjjzf No, I couldn't make it through one episode because the happy-go-lucky Adam Curry from The Daily Source Code and the lovable crank John C Dvorak from Cranky Geeks suddenly became these mean folks that spent most of their time promoting their shows. I even stopped listening to This Week In Tech when John was on because he would derail things to whatever he talked about on No Agenda.

@0 @nev @jalcine @emacsen Seems you have some work to do to figure out what the connection between all of this has to software and the FSF.

@nev @jalcine @emacsen Yeah, it took me reading his other written works to undo any hero worship I have of ESR. He comes to a convention that I attend. At first I was "OMG it's ESR, but after a few years I started realizing he wasn't what I was trying to impose on him.

@jalcine @emacsen RMS, Linus Torvalds, ESR, Bruce Perens, etc. were like prophets and apostles to me, spreading a gospel of software accessibility that I could have only dreamed about. Before you couldn't get the source for anything you ran; now you could. I wore the uniform of Linux and did my part to spread the good news.

It's hard to realize that someone you admired is fallible and doesn't reflect your own values. You hope that they'll change and keep perfecting themselves.

@jalcine @emacsen Speaking as someone who graduated college into Linux I would say that Linux and Free Software became my religion even moreso than being Lutheran. My wife joked that my religion was Getting Things Done and Linux and she wasn't far off. They both taught me a different way of thinking about the world that profoundly changed how I interacted with the world.

@jalcine @emacsen I think it's the belief in fundamental goodness winning out. Perhaps it's a misguided belief that those who go astray will eventually return penitent and ready to be part of the community again, no matter how long it takes.

Maybe it's one too many "Prodigal Son" sermons on Sunday that make us believe that no matter how much someone screws up that we should forgive when they get their crap together.

My hope is that the ideals that Richard Stallman planted and cultivated for these many years can finally bloom without having their sunlight taken away.

I also believe in forgiveness for those who are truly penitent. I hope that RMS will eventually learn from his mistakes without the microscope upon him.

These ideas are too important to throw out; too precious to let degrade.

Seriously folks, if someone mentions something and you're not sure what's going on do yourself a favor:

1) Try typing those terms into a search engine.

2) Look on other social media platforms to determine if others are talking about it (they probably are)

3) If you're truly stuck (perhaps this is something deep) ask if there is a link for more information so you can do your own homework.

Expecting someone to explain everything to you like a news reporter is asinine and draining. Do your work

I'm not sure I quite understand how Django can have little shortcuts for the admin form for pretty much everything but adding a user to a group.
