there are so many sites, accounts, various 'news' outlets and places of discord being silenced, conveniently, right before mid terms. now one could say, well its the right of those platforms, sure whatever, but isn't this worse than some russians? because imo censorship from within our country is a worse sign of the times than from outside. i expect foreign states to disagree, i expect my countrymen to at least have a conversation, not just ban what they dont want to see. this is real meddling
@gemlog As to the porous border: it's open because it benefits people who are underpaying people. A porous border is friendly to drugs and human trafficking, which are both long-term problems. An unchecked immigration policy is a parallel, undocumented population putting their fingers on the scale of wages and the overall cost is the market value of entry-level jobs, and a flooded market.
Most of all, it reflects a lack of respect for our laws and established legal immigration process.
@gemlog the choregraphy is exceptional. Precisely because of its media transparency, it should be possible -- by checking flight records, etc -- to get a picture of the people managing the media part, if not the support network (if any/exceptional.)
@jeremiah Pounds per day - generally four (or just under 30000), though backpackers get by with half that with freeze dried food. Tooth to tail (combat vs non-combat) varies by branch of military but has steadily grown over the years. Was 2% non-combat through 1800's. It changed to 2:1 in WWI, roughly 1:1 at the end of WWII, 1:2 in Korean War etc. By the way, a fighter pilot can have 10 people supporting him and the aircraft. The caravan is likely a scourge on the communities it passes through.
Anyone with military logistics experience riddle me this:
As of 6 days ago, ABC had the caravan at 7200 people.
That's 7200 people eating, drinking, and shitting.
Who's feeding them? And more to the point -- how much food does it take to do this? How many pounds a day are we talking? If this were soldiers on their feet, what kind of support would be required to keep them fed and watered?
