If you're not familiar with the Github issue list here's how it works: you can create a Github account and use it to support feature requests you like and get involved with Mastodon development.

Go to the various bug reports and feature requests and "upvote" by clicking the thumbs-up.

You can also leave a comment if you've got new stuff to add, or thumbs-up existing comments you agree with.

Click the subscribe button to be notified when people are working on it or when new comments are made.

Like, okay, Data's face pasted over Zuck's face, hilarious - except that Data is a good person and a relatable character for a lot of good people out there. You're literally making Zuck look *better* by comparing him to Data? If you want to be mean to him you have to paste on the face of someone *bad*, no? Data is awesome.

So hi! Could folks who are making jokes about Mark Zuckerberg please be aware that comparing him to a robot can be hurtful because

a) if he is autistic you are repeating the same tired old jokes about autistic people having no emotions just because you can't read our facial expressions, and

b) if he is not autistic then you are still doing that, and reminding autistic people of jokes people make about how we're evil/heartless - and at the same time you're comparing us to Mark Zuckerberg. Rude.

The best way to get more people to join Mastodon is to stop caring about getting people to join Mastodon, and start focusing on making this place a nice place to be.

- Block FLOSS evangelist dudebros;
- Report nazis and TERFs;
- Take care of and support each other;
- Avoid unsolicited advice/criticism/etc;
- Report bugs to your admin;
- Post your feature requests;
- Don't go into someone's mentions to whinge about tangentially related things.

Last night I started #GetOnOurLawn, aimed at *established* Mastodon people, to help make it a nicer place for newbies. Here's an incomplete summary:

- Use hashtags, so new folks have something to find.
- Report bugs and request features, so new people have a good first impression usability-wise.
- Report people that newbies shouldn't have to deal with.
- Be encouraging when new people propose good ideas.
- If you don't have anything nice/encouraging to say to someone, just don't say anything!

Hashtags are the *only* way to find people who're into the same stuff as you without having to ask folks for help. So:

1) Add hashtags to your positive public posts, and

2) When you post a hashtag, click it and boost something positive from that hashtag.

It helps get positive and interesting posts further out into the fediverse, and lets newbies find and follow people who share their interests. :)

(I saw this idea somewhere and I liked it, but I can't remember who it was!)

Try to remember that any one person on here will most likely have lots of friends, family and contacts still on Twitter, and they may even quite like Twitter!

Mastodon *is not* and should not be a Twitter replacement. I reckon it will do best if it's a good site in its own right with its own great community of goodness. If we only exist with the agenda of bringing Twitter down and stealing all its users we'll be a bitter community of badness.

Connection in all its forms is Good.

I see people here sometimes saying that they don't want any more big influxes of people here because undesirable/stupid/mainstream people will join, I just saw someone say that riffraff plebs would "dilute the intellectual discourse," and I just want to say that I feel like that is gross hipster elitist nonsense.

More people! All different kinds of people! People that are curious and new and will point out our Missing Stairs! People who will get all over our lawns! YEAH
