@shmibs @rye It seems like a vicious circle. As you say, it's not just how you look physically... but also your body image and confidence/self-esteem. I really can't see myself out of this one... even if I do manage to slim down or alter my body appearance.

"A physician treating obesity at Kaiser noticed that his most successful patients—those who had lost the most weight—were dropping out of his program. Intrigued, he arranged for follow-up with the ex-participants, who shared that their weight loss brought up old traumatic emotions from childhood. It was easier to live life with morbid obesity, despite any pain and inconvenience it might cause, than it was to face those old feelings.
That is testament to the power of old trauma, and of fat as a semi-conscious strategy to help contain it."

@dude Yeah... I've had alcohol when it was made with food but I try to limit the stuff where I can. I don't drink it separately as a drink, though. Just gotta find what works best for us.
-
@dude Yeah, In my teens, I used to drink fizzy drinks more... and then later on, I'd have some alcohol. But I've found that it didn't do me any good, and I can't say it is something I miss in my diet.
-
@dude Sounds good to me. It's funny how much I prefer water... but I think it did take some adjusting to.
-
@dude Yeah... I prefer to avoid the stuff too. I'll take a glass of water over it.

"Self-love is considered to be an important component of self-esteem and overall well-being. It is generally difficult, if not impossible, to feel content without first being able to love and accept the self. Researchers have discovered that the practice of self-love is associated with a multitude of benefits, such as greater life satisfaction, increased happiness, and greater resilience."
-
@hj Yeah... it feels kinda sad in that sense. To not even be able to imagine that you are loved by yourself. It's a hard one, and I wish I knew how to reach that.
-
@guizzy Yeah, and I imagine it would be quite the daily struggle to feel as well. It's a perspective shift for sure.
-
@epsiloco That is good to hear. We need more people loving themselves first.
-
@hj It's quite a shift in perspective, isn't it? Imagine if you felt a love for yourself that meant you wanted to see yourself being happy and to take care of yourself. That you were motivated and it felt good. Too often, we're taught to do this for others but not for ourselves.
-
@moonman Yeah. You'll get there, moon. It sounds like you've done lots of good for yourself here. Getting a routine going that means being active.
-
@hj But isn't this the type of thing you'd do for a loved one?
-
"Love yourself first."
-
@moonman It's easier to love other people than ourselves, to love the bodies other people have but not our own, isn't it?
-
"Just try to picture it: Imagine waking up every day, excited and grateful to be in your own body.
Being there for yourself unconditionally, spoiling and treating yourself daily, just because it feels amazing to see yourself happy and taken care of."
-
"You know why? One can of Coca Cola contains 65 grams of sugar and carbs. That fills out the recommended daily sugar intake, twice." Oof.
-
When I passed on doughnuts/pastries with cream... I felt better about myself. But then I later caved over a Mars bar. Why did I have to do that? xD I mean, that will undo the work I've done this week at least.
-
@dude @augustus @sim I'll pass this along to @thatbrickster / bricky.
-
@wowaname I think I'll wait to see how strict it becomes before becoming seriously concerned.
