@MightyPork yeah, the only thing that signal, telegram or wire have on xmpp+otr or similar solutions is that they are slightly prettier and easier to set up on a phone.

We are trying some bots posting the good radical media and news that currently dues not post into #openweb projects. #ORG #submedia #novaramedia are the current testing groups.

@bluestarfish campaign is more mainstream activism were activism is a more sub-culture atavism. The is a history of these two views fighting amongst themselves and forgetting about fighting power so give them a space each - that's federated together so are porous to the good in both :)

The Corporation behind and the Admins of Facebook can see your “Private Messages.”

The Admins of Mastodon can see your Direct Messages. They aren’t private.

With Mastodon, you can spin up your own instance and be your own Admin.

Ultimately, don’t use any of these tools for actual private messages. Use Signal, Matrix/Riot or another end to end encrypted messaging tool.

Lets call this the #openweb for outreach lets not use terms like #indyweb #fediverse as outreach as they are inword looking sub-culture terms.

We are a delightful mix of sub-cultures on here. But if this network is going to survive we need to outreach into more mainstream cultures. Sub-culture projects are #fashernista and another fashion will come along soon anufe...

My though on the subject after seeing 100's of #openweb projects grow and die over the last 20 years.

A chance for mastodon users to meetup in the flesh. the inspiration from the event came from this video of a twitter event in its early growth days https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb2lfY8-iRY Social networking, back in your hands The world’s largest free, open-source, decentralized microblogging network Mastodon isn’t one place and one set of rules: it’s thousands of unique, interconnected communities to choose from, filled with different people, interests, languages, and needs. Don’t like the rules? You’re free to join any community you like, or better yet: you can host your own, on your own terms! Putting the user first. You’re a person, not a product. Mastodon is a free, open-source development that has been crowdfunded, not financed. All instances are independently owned, operated, and moderated. There is no monopoly by a single commercial company, no ads, and no tracking. Mastodon works for you, and not the other way around. The are over 1 million users and growing fast this stepping outside the “walled gardens” It's time to take a step away and mastodon is right in many ways for this step. list of instances with a physical presents at the event: https://campaign.openworlds.info https://joinmastodon.org
