"Amazon just pledged to hit net zero climate emissions by 2040"
You know that this is 1.) too late and 2.) "we" could do this by 2025 by sizing their means of production, replace their model of organised consumption and will still have a budget to shoot Bezos to the moon.
A reported 100,000 people protested in Berlin yesterday. If you’re going to do it, that’s the scale that matters. At that scale, even the happy pacifists can make an impression.
But if you’re just a little warband of 15 people, you better be burning cars for it to get attention. Otherwise, just go plant some trees.
In fact, why isn’t there monthly tree-planting marches. Tear up cement and plant trees where they’re not supposed to be. That’s demonstrating.
(Besides the strange notion to declare within the german political parlarmentary system an "emergency", which have just very bad consequences) the point of declaring an emergency would be to force every academic [& managers] to articulate how their teaching/researching[/change management] is related to climate adaption.
I had my own sign today, not very radical, not very cool but the slogan was: "What do I stand for? It is what I stand on! Expropriate and collectivize now!"
But preaching for love and kindness was much more around.
This climate strike was a bit underwhelming, but some people i met were nice to see (again).
Most people i did not know and talked to had no idea how to answer the simple question of "so, what now, that we are here. what to do next". If "they" had an answer at all, it was related to something wide out of their influence. Or in the realm of "shifting attention to topic", with no feasable idea what comes after the shifted attention. I still stand very critical on what i saw and heard today. hm.
And they will not even talk about a additional CO2-tax within this legislation period anymore, the SPD (socialdems) buckled again. They did not make a stand. Again, as so often.
