Holy Illuminatis, I just found out Warren Spector, designer behind Deus Ex 1, the System Shock series, Thief may become involved in my 90's-style cyberpunk FPS/RPG in the spirit of DX. holy shit I can't even
The paradox of the cyberpunk present where megacorporations ruin everything with predatory capitalism is they destroy cyberpunk itself by diluting it to meaninglessness for $$$. This is just one of the less shitty ones! :D https://store.steampowered.com/app/673850/Neofeud/ #cyberpunk#indiegame
"Neon and corporate dystopias: why does cyberpunk refuse to move on?"
Cyberpunk has been moving on but the ultrarich, like the folks that pay The Guardian writers' salaries, will never fund cyberpunk that challenges the capitalist/neoliberal status quo, and will never pay you to cover it in their billionaire propaganda rags passing for journalism.

@mirzaba Yeah Itch is probably the best small-indie distribution places but you kind of need an existing fanbase or something. Or make something that the Itch crowd particularly, particularly likes.
@dartigen That's my mom, actually. She shops for clothes to make herself feel better and works insane hours to do it. It really saddens me to watch her working at nearly 70 to keep getting glitter nails and Macys crap.
@dartigen Yeah, I mean, in my country, people buy fifty pairs of (slave-made) name brand clothing for no other reason than cause that's what others do, then don't wear the clothing, and are filled with deep black voids in their heart and are deeply unhappy and need to take happy pills to fix it.
If making your own clothes keeps you from being sucked into that consumerist cycle, it is a net benefit alone.
@bob@dartigen Haha, yep exactly. The corollary I guess is the only ethical thing you can consume is your own stuff or your friends' stuff. (Which is why I only play my own games but that's just a byproduct of narcissism ๐ )
@dartigen I also try to grow my own food, even though I can't grow enough and need to shop at a grocery store. I know a lot of that produce was farmed by low-paid migrant workers who might be rounded up in a concentration camp right now. You can't have an iPhone or any device or the internet at all without participating in capitalism, slavery and enriching billionaires.
You just have to do what you can, and then let things lie.
@dartigen So I would say any amount of thing you can do yourself is better in the long run. Even if it's small. That's the way I see my indie game business. I didn't fuck anyone over for a percentage, cause I know I made everything in my games.
