Yes, a draft function and (maybe customizable) auto-save would be great. I always compose longer texts in an editor and save often before copying+pasting it into the web app at the end.
It's also more reliable than web app storage options even if they're there since it doesn't rely on a working connection.
So can a script use the browser itself to store stuff on the device (I think I saw options to allow this in the settings)? If not, an auto-save function should better warn the user if the connection to the server is lost/unstable...
-
I'm also seriously considering creating an auto-save or save draft function.
I've been meaning to do this for years now but never quite get around to doing it. Discourse is an inspiration for this; I like their real-time preview mode and autosave. We probably can't do real-time preview but the autosave for sure. There's already the code to do that (mostly) with the personal notes feature.

Glad I tested this. Because after you disable Firebug, the F12 shortcut is no longer mapped to Firebug - but still opens the developer tools. You need to install the 'Keybinder' addon to remove or modify the mapping. I removed the mapping for both F11 (full screen toggle) and F12 (developer tools).
Now I just have to do the same thing on a dozen other computers.

Grrr. Bloody firebug. I don't use it any more since it has been incorporated into Firefox - but it was still installed.
Long story short, a dozen times now over the last several months I would be composing a long text and my fat fingers slip reaching for the backspace and instead hit F12, which opens firebug. Annoying but no big deal. I close firebug. Then hit the backspace I meant to hit before. But since Firebug was launched the text window no longer has focus. The page does, and a backspace takes you to the previous page - instantly losing all your carefully composed text.
I've just uninstalled Firebug. I'm also seriously considering creating an auto-save or save draft function.

The specification for OpenWebAuth has just been updated to encrypt generated tokens in transit. Anybody interested in or following this specification is urged to review the updated document.
https://macgirvin.com/wiki/mike/OpenWebAuth/Home
Hubzilla 2.8 uses the older plaintext token (should still be fine assuming you're using SSL). These are still supported currently, but going forward unencryped tokens will eventually be deprecated.

So this happens when you enable to send unknown samples? Often saw new offers who sell complete security as a service where everything is going through a hosted service first. Will this stop pirated software copies by NSA staffers?

Whenever I see something fail with a '.well-known' service I have to wonder first if LetsEncrypt has done something new to break it. I do have a check which looks for .well-known/.htaccess and moves it if it appears (as it makes all .well-known services except acme-challenge "deny all" - including our own). I don't know (at all) what they do for nginx; but presumably they attempt something similar.
[edit: and they keep changing the ways that they break .well-known. It's an arms race to keep our services working]
[edit2: in this case it turned out that some new changes and "requirements" were added to the Diaspora protocol without telling anybody or documenting them adequately. I caught one of them because it triggered an alert in my email, but the second one flew under the radar.]

@Mike Macgirvin it does not work with a fresh installed for some reason. Connecting from diaspora to hubzilla ends up with:

@Mike Macgirvin i had a private conversation with @Holger this afternoon.
He could not connect from diaspora to hubzilla and seeing some Fehler im Log: "diaspora_decode: mod-diaspora: Could not retrieve author key"
errors in the log. This was on RC branch.
I could not reproduce this on my hub but than this is an older one... It might be an issue with new installations... I am afraid this will need some investigation...
Anyway, Holger seems to be back at master branch now here:Embedded content

It has been working correctly to my knowledge. Please note that the protocol must be enabled by every member who wishes to use it, as the channel cloning feature and location independence will not work correctly with Diaspora connections. See settings/featured (Diaspora Protocol Settings), tick the box to turn the connector on for this channel and submit.
If you've already done this and are still encountering issues, we need a better description of what functionality isn't working correctly in order to track it down.
-
you have to enable the protocol at the administration level,
but also at user level,
in practice, enable 2 times.
-
It works in current RC (i just checked). You can simply
git checkout 2.8RC
or wait until it's released (possibly next week).
-
Sorry about this simple question but the connection from diaspora to hubzilla doesnt work.
Protokoll is enabled an postings are postet proper on diaspora site.
Any hints?
