@pla1 this Rohloff hun is now close to 30'000km and I never did any maintenance other than changing the oil, which is imho quite impressive. @theru

@pla1 Rohloff, when I bought the bicycle the Pinion wasn't around yet. I change the oil once a year, it takes 15 minutes max, it's very easy. @theru

@pla1 I tend to buy frames and parts instead of fully assembled bikes. I bought my downhill bile from LBS though @theru

@pla1 @theru the down side is that you have to use internal gears and the only ones that actually work for heavy use - Rohloff and Pinion - are quite expensive.

@mjjzf what are you using today?

@NYbill you should have gotten a black one ;)

@theru @pla1 Belts drives are the solution here..I put about 17'000km on one belt and when it tore the new belt still fit on the chain (belt?) wheel. I'm now on another 10'000 km on that second belt. Still going strong.

@pla1 @theru I'm having a hard time supporting my LBS as I do most repairs myself and they usually don't stock the items I'm trying to buy - that's why I keep ordering parts over the internet instead.

@mjjzf I'm running a #fvwm2 desktop on #Slackware and are still quite happy with it. No reinventing going on on this front...
