What I find humorous is that from my time working on Unity, probably the most impactful software is my work on DBusMenu. Which, we were trying to kill in favor of GMenu once that was completed. We never succeeded.

Here is a new implementation of the protocol in Chromium: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/1654489

@bjarni I can't speak for the world, but in the US no one is willing to raise the gas tax at all. To the point where it is supposed to pay for roads, but they're now funding roads from other taxes. And we're still providing tax subsidies for oil exploration for corporations that do it.

So I don't think we've (at least in the US) even tried the easy things.

So what she ensures as her part of that employement, is that everything you do when working for her is going to get enjoyed. Even the mistakes. Macaroons that are the wrong size get cruched up and put in ice cream. Pastries that aren't perfect go to Meals on Wheels. Everything is enjoyed by someone.

Seems like enlightened management to me.

The class was given by the owner and she also talked a bit about the business. One of the most interesting insights that she mentioned was how she ensures that her bakers have job satisfaction.

She points out how difficult a job making pastries can be. It is endless rolling of dough and precision work with delicate recipies. But that is all worth it when you're making something you know someone is going to enjoy. How you're going to brighten their day.

Went and took a macaroons class at Bisous-Bisous in Dallas this weekend. Great class. They're delicate and tricky, but we got tons of amazing real life tips. It was also yummy. Recommend the class, and the bakery, if you're in Dallas.

@bjarni when they do, we can react to that.

We shouldn't avoid solving the problems we have with solutions we have just because someone might find another way to game the system in the future.

@bjarni the producer will stop producing if they can't sell it. Sure they can lower the price, but if that still doesn't make it sell, it is cheaper to store it in the ground than in tanks. So they'll leave it there.

Certainly it's a complex problem, but I don't think it is intractable. We just need folks willing to sacrifice to make it happen.

@bjarni curious if we couldn't just tax crude oil at an extreme amount. Perhaps refined forms too. Seems that may take care of it from the demand perspective.

The problem is that modern economies are driven by low cost energy, so you'd be hampering your economy. Which politicians aren't willing to do.

@remram44 @vickysteeves to each his own, but I trust many (not all) registrars more than most email providers.

I would definitely disagree with the "much safer" statement though.

I would recommend checking the terms of service on them and seeing what they are. That's all you can count on.

@remram44 @vickysteeves in theory that's a problem with any custom domain regardless of who hosts the mail.

But, that's better than Google, who doesn't have to wait for you to die to take your address and use it how they wish.

In theory, you could out control of your domains in your will if you thought your heirs would be sophisticated enough to handle it. Never heard of that being done in practice though.

@vickysteeves I have my domain through gandi.net (guessing you may too with your French connections) and they provide a few mailboxes for free. It is enough I don't have to worry about it.
