    @brainblasted @peter Slack has already run a bait-and-switch on xmpp, so you can only expect it to go downhill from there. Use communication tools which are controlled by the community, not some self-interested corporation.

    The Sharings plugin on GNU Social and postActiv is a freecycle-style system for sharing physical stuff. It would be nice to have something like this in Mastodon and Pleroma, but federated so that it doesn't only apply to one instance.

    Zuckerberg said something like "There is no number of people I could hire which would be enough to review Facebook content".

    So for him it's AI or bust. Either he makes automated moderation work somehow, or Facebook goes under or has to change in some major way.

    I think it will turn out that people moderating their own communities is really the only solution.

    Onion based federation is now working with #pleroma on #freedombone. This means that it's now possible to follow users on "onion only" installs.

    This type of federation is quite significant, because it means independence from the DNS and CA systems. It means that even if you don't control your local internet router or don't have money to spend on domain names you can still create a social network. It significantly reduces the complexity barrier to entry for running a home server.

    @CobaltVelvet @Elizafox I'm also wary that LE is becoming a big single point of failure. If anything were to happen to them there would be a lot of chaos. We should be be trying to get away from the DNS and CA system as much as is possible.

    It's now possible to create #freedombone images which can run from an external SSD drive. This can improve the read/write performance a lot.

    ProtonMail is ok. I have a protonmail account as a fallback, so that if my server is hit by a meteor, grabbed by The Fuzz or washed away in a tsunami I could still send emails of complaint.

    After a certain amount of shenanigans toxcore, toxic and qTox have all been updated to the latest commits on #freedombone. This deals with a recent deanonymisation bug discovered within toxcore.
