@thomasfuchs I know! I keep telling myself "one day" ... Probably about the time I win the lottery and get a big enough house to set up a dedicated retrocomputer room. :awesome:

I really need to stop looking at eBay because I keep seeing objects of desire that are unobtainable.

There's a beautiful Commodore 128D bundle on there right now that was my idea of the ultimate machine back in the late 80s.

@Funkpirata that hits pretty close - I'm not familiar with that area at all, but my trip up to Wadeville earlier this year was for an old friend's wake. It was his home up there, he loved it. Seemed like he'd finally found the one place he fit in, and it's not for me but I got the attraction and liked his friends.

Byron though - man I didn't get that joint at all. I only went there to tick off the easternmost point, I'm not in a hurry to go back.

Hope you get some good time with your friend.

@thomasfuchs with that keyboard layout it's got to be a PET of some kind, right?

So there was a big protest today by schoolkids who blew off school and marched in the streets over government inaction on climate change.

The Prime Minister has said they should be less activist and focus on their schooling instead.

I just saw this sign. These kids are great.

@Funkpirata if you're up that way Sunday afternoon, punch "Wadeville Woolies" into your phone and head inland. There's a Sunday arvo music muso/random jam session that's very chilled and they attract a good type of people.

Good place to camp a day or two if you have the gear.

I had a nagging headache all day yesterday for no reason I could tell, woke up this morning feeling it still. Sat down at my desk with my morning coffee today, and found my full, cold, untouched coffee from yesterday morning.

    Everything makes sense now.

ok fedi i need some tech help

i got some data off a memory card from 2000- some mysterious audio files & text documents & drawings, all of which i know are from child-me.

i cannot open any of them.

the audio files are .wav but throw a missing codec error in VLC when i try to play them. the text documents are in the .psw (Pocket Word) format & the images are in .psi format (god knows, i only know they're images from the file names).

can anyone on Tech Masto help me open these bits of my childhood?

    • Cefiar

@cefiar I think the 0 in D1 and D0 is supposed to return the current frequency, not reset it.

I've thrown that at the transmitter a few times in my loop to see what happens, and the frequency hasn't changed, and something's coming back.

I need to clean up, maybe start some fresh code, and write some proper comms routines to actually have a conversation with it instead of just throwing commands down the line and walking away. πŸ˜€

@cefiar thanks, I'll have a look when I next sit down with it.

Funny you mention doing this in C64 assembly, I have thought about driving this with the 64, but the blocker there is the serial line is locked to 19200 and I don't think I can get that out of a 64, even for just a couple of bytes. It's a whole other category of problem and one I'm not interested in.

I could change the frequency just by the UP/DOWN pins but it just doesn't seem very elegant.

@hurt138 I've been considering something like this, yeah. Then I had a think about how hard I had to look for a radio in order to test it. πŸ€”

I honestly don't know what my plans are here other than poking it and learning things.

@cefiar it has a serial line you send commands over, it's really neat. Just define the data rate on the Arduino side and throw bytes at it. Very simple command set, just frequency, power and digital/analog audio input switch. It defaults to max power and analog in, so haven't needed to touch those.
