@freakazoid @c25l i think working toward community goals while simultaneously organising folks in preparation of some sort of direct fight against power structures, is the ideal.

if we continue to balance these two things then it'll be hard to lose sight of our goals, and hard for an authoritarian presence to rise out of any kind of revolution, if we're already wary of folks far removed from our communities trying to tell us what to do, just like the politicians before them.

@meena under current society, automation is shit because it aims to put poor people out of jobs and only usually benefits the rich

get rid of the concept of rich people by abolishing a monetary system, while also removing the need for workers to require jobs for survival, and suddenly automation is very desirable and doesn't promote inequality, but rather freedom from work and other obligations

@meena if we decentralise political power and let communities run themselves, community members will undoubtedly jump at the chance to have a say in how their community develops and interacts with other communities, so they can better their own lives.

in doing so, it'll become apparent how much work it'll take to maintain the community. but it'll also become easier to meet everyone's needs and allocate resources appropriately, without the lack of perspective that a politician has.

@meena and i mean, eventually as time passes, automation will take over many of the shitty jobs so we won't even have to do them. it'll take a long time, but there's no doubt in my mind that capable people will decide to pick up the slack even without money as an incentive. there's plenty of existing incentive.

not to mention manipulating people into doing the gross jobs against their wiil, via keeping them on the hook for an income to survive, is seriously a troubling idea.

@meena people don't want their communities to go to trash, but under our current society we literally don't have the time/energy because most of us are too busy working jobs that only aim to improve the lives of the people who hold the reigns

if we work the jobs that actively and directly improve our lives - yes, even the shitty ones - that'll be much more fulfilling and gives us much more freedom

@meena except people actually would! just like how we clean our bathrooms or do the dishes because things start to get nasty and it's beneficial for us to keep up with them, there are always people who will be all "gee, that garbage sure is piling up. maybe we should start a community waste collection initiative"

and it'd be more enjoyable than working under the current system because it's collaborative. no obligation, no bosses or customers yelling and applying pressure, no strings

that said, i would super appreciate games with marginalised characters being fleshed out and powerful and dealing with their problems in ways that make the player feel empowered, or allow the player to help fight back against oppressors that they might not be up for taking as extreme actions against irl

but as far as the old fallout/TES games compared to new? i like new better. even if i hate the main stories and many of the characters.

i don't really want fleshed out characters so much as i want a fleshed out universe. a pretty map that gives me plenty of good scenery to look at, cool shit to explore, various mechanics to play around with, and lots to do. people and their petty problems or futile attempts at questioning morals are usually what i'm trying to escape when i play such a game.

i'm gonna be honest, i...kinda don't really care for when bethesda's rpgs have hollow characters i don't care about. because when they do try to make you care about the characters, it's all boring privileged people and their silly problems.

i like skyrim because there's just the bare minimum of lore to keep it interesting, but it is ultimately a game of mowing down skeletons and bandits, riding dragons, and dating lizards. and if you're ambitious, turning the dragons into thomas the tank engine

@freakazoid yeah, that's especially why we need to decentralise power and let communities control themselves.

@freakazoid i'm not saying we should avoid or ban fast food. being poor, having major depression, and ending up homeless multiple times, has made fast food a staple of my diet.

naturally, society would need to change a lot more for this one specific example to be viable to change with the rest of it.

it's simply an example to use as a demonstration of how work under our current society is unfulfilling and abusive.

we don't need to have money to reward people for their jobs, we can simply just share all the shit we produce and the resources we're currently hoarding and instead let everyone do the job that makes them happy, rather than the job that barely keeps them alive.

we have more than enough of everything to go around, there is no reason to hide all of life behind a paywall.

people should be working because they want to, because they already have enough incentive to do a job, or it's seriously not worth doing.

i'd honestly stop eating at fast food places if it meant all the workers could live more happy, fulfilling lives instead of catering to my selfish desires.

no work is worth it if it's not fulfilling to those doing it

even when everyone is given the same amount of money to start off with, everyone has different needs like healthcare, dietary restrictions, trauma that they need to account for, different cultures and lifestyles, natural disasters and accidents occur, etc

and that's not even getting into wage inequality where we value certain workers over others, especially when we often pay people with cushier/easier jobs, more money.

money is inherently toxic as it introduces inequality by design, and encourages us to manipulate each other to get what we want or at the very least survive

imagine a world where instead of bosses and customers yelling at employees to get the job done how and when they want it or they won't get paid, everyone is on equal terms and people have to wait patiently for others to complete work for them. and be grateful and kind, or they will no longer be served (or at least get lousy service)
