Weird to think of a time when _time_ was geographically localized and you needed to cross-reference different events to pin it down: https://aeon.co/essays/when-time-became-regular-and-universal-it-changed-history

@Eramdam It _should_ remove the content of the toots, leaking one DOM node per toot. Maybe it broke or got removed? 😕

"How We Measure Standards (and why it’s sort of a problem)" by John Jansen https://medium.com/@thejohnjansen/how-we-measure-standards-and-why-its-sort-of-a-problem-332eacae6cca (/ht @tomayac)

I worked with John on the Edge team, and I was always impressed with his integrity. This is a good post about how browsers approach "standards," and how controlling the narrative is often as important as actually fixing interop bugs.

Had a very interesting chat today with Sebastian from Mozilla who's working on their android components project: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/android-components

If you want to make a browser for android, this is the place to look. Well written, well-tested, modular and composeable components covering all of the different parts of the browser. This will make making browsers and browser-like apps much easier!

@datenimperator I share your view, don't think they are messing things up on purpose. But that is irrelevant to the average users, who will perceive this as Firefox lagging behind and not working with Google's feature X.

Interesting to see the extent to which Firefox must go to maintain compatibility with Google: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mozilla.dev.platform/q5cj38hGTEA

Even when you manage to keep up with the latest standards you have to bend over backwards to avoid taking the blame for not implementing what Google implements (the de facto standard).

@Aerdan Don't think so, but `layout.css.scroll-anchoring.enabled` might fix the issue (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1305957). Hasn't reached stable though.

@n8 There are legitimate usages of this, WordPress for instance (which seems to power their blog) uses it to detect if your operating system supports emojis (and uses a different font in that case).
