Within my county, pay for 1h of live music dropped from ~$30/h to ~$6/h.

Average pay per streamed song dropped $0.03 cents to $0.007

Cost to belong to proper songwriting and such unions went up from $160/yr to $780/yr

Note that over this period, online piracy plummeted and subscriptions to streaming services rose dramatically.

Don't assume not pirating has improved things for musicians.

@nolan FYI, my partner had a site recently that showed "hey we see you're in in cognito" and it freaked them out that they could track that, so while it might be creepy, it's probably good creepy to make people aware of.

Y'all might find this cool. I used to work in an office that was above the basement facility where many ofthe Enigma-breaker machines were assembled. It was scheduled for demolition, so before it was, I tried to find something to take as a souvenir. This is what I got. Certainly not a unique or identifying artifact, but I like having it. (And yes, it's full of first aid supplies because it seems heretical to have a box labeled first aid that doesn't have first aid in it, no matter how old)

If you're recommending we revert to the Internet as it was before Facebook (where people had to manage websites to have a presence), that's like suggesting we fix democracy by removing woman's suffrage. Technically illiterate people are people. Fixing a system by excluding a huge chunk of people from using it isn't fixing it, and I'm truly stunned to see an otherwise inclusive community so blindly advocate for it.
