being involuntary committed to a mental institution is a huge violation of agency, far more countertherapeutic than the services administered could possibly be. more, the "scarier" a crazy person is, the more danger they're in of being abused rather than treated by psychiatric professionals.

someone yelling at their voices isn't a threat to you, but if you get them committed you're a REAL threat to them!

You might get phone calls or see on the news that you should report homeless people who are out in the cold to a number who will take them to a shelter. Don’t do that. Ask them if they want to go and if they don’t do. Not. Call. I understand that it is hard to do, and you are worried. But they are people and they don’t want to go and they have agency. Please.

This is the best article I've seen about Facebook lately, and I've seen a lot. It's going in my link blog, but I'd like to point it out now, so you don't miss it. It specifically contrasts Facebook and the Internet of 2018 with the Internet of 1995 to 2005.

We've had flying cars for forty years. They're called Gulfstream G650s, cost $60 million, and only Mark Zuckerberg & billionaire friends will ever have these corporate jets and helicopters.

The future is unevenly distributed, because the labor that produces the future is not yet cooperatized.
