when i load a web page ridden with trackers and adware that presents a broken and mutilated version of itself when deprived of javascript, i feel as though i am a carpenter who has just sat in a chair made by another only to have it crumble beneath me. i am ashamed of this craftsperson, of my craft, and of the profiteers who bind us to such crude and petty ways.
like, between friends and family, we have tens of thousands of dollars of medical debt. over a ten year period, we've been billed for hundreds of thousands. much of that was written off for lack of payment, or forgiven on the basis of malpractice. it's hard for me to imagine not having this weight on you, this financial pressure that seems to want you dead or at least starving, this... fear of seeking treatment because the cost may leave you sicker.
