if all you do is run nightly and report bugs, you are helping, even if you don't technically count as a developer

design, mockup, and visual aid in creation of the user interface is still developer work
just because something does not fit your narrow definition of "valid" does not make it any less valid or deserving of recognition

we build infra, nerds. bridges and roads, bolts and screws made of light and will. the consequences of our craft require higher standards than open source alone. we must accept the whole burden of stewardship, of governance, if we hope to ever make good software. that means binding ourselves and our communities of practice to both technical and ethical expectations.
you wouldn't trust a bridge that its builders consider their pet project, but that's so much modern software.

if sqliteโs new CoC featuring the ten commandments and then some gives you the willies, there are some alternatives. i use pouchdb for projects that only need a small local database: everything is stored on disk. you hook it up to a couchdb install if you need to scale your db infra, in which case it automatically transacts with couchdb rather than the local filesystem.
plus you can stick it in the browser ๐

@pixelpaperyarn i sympathize with this dilemma. having it available on something with integrated feedback and organizing features has saved a project or two for me with community contributions. some are even starting to face forking / governance issues as they become more community infrastructure than demoware.
