cyberpunk was conceived as the apocalyptic end game of capitalism, a dark, ashen hell of absolute corporate power and death. capitalism, the demon of double-talk, convinced us this was a good idea.

Morning gorgeous fediversians.
Even in your down moments, you still are who you are. You still all of your victories, triumphs and discoveries. That is a constant.
We all go through our tough moments because life is what it is, but you are always going to be all of the great things you have accumulated.
And that's fucking awesome.
@c25l “really bad idea for us” only makes sense when “us” means “the bosses” imo
i remember a shitshow tantrum that a boys club threw at one startup over mandatory “know your rights, workers!” federal department of labor posters. “this is everything we hate about big corporate jobs!!” o rly? u hate rights? 🤦♀️
#ShiftChange is a new #documentary about the growing use of #cooperatives as digital technology stewardship organizations, both small-scale, worker-owned tech shops, and large-scale #PlatformCooperatives:

@gekitsu you are not alone in thinking this. that phrase is gonna stick with me as a result
@sifr i mean i’ll take “well-organized collective” too 🤷♀️ oddly reminiscent of the second amendment 🤔
i mean they use the phrase “well-organized collective” but it’s clear they mean “a union”
Knitted hat for cat yesterday. Hat actually on cat was a glorious but brief event (as expected)
Pictured: A black cat on a couch with a knitted hat on his head and an expression of bafflement and deep displeasure
even WIRED can’t help but talk about the need for unions:

Check out Vimville. It's not far from the shell station.
There's no money to be made in stitching together parts from purloined bodies and using a tower-based lightning system to imbue them with life. The real money is in catering to the hobbyists who want to make their own monsters and selling them starter kits, supplies and how to guides.
More than half will never even make a single monster. They'll spend money just so they can imagine themselves as the sort of person who stitches together and animates monsters.
here's the first chapter of a The Shepherd, a pulp-style serial i've been working on where a bunch of animals are lost in space and time together. let me know what you think!

what part of "stop protecting rapists" is so radical? stop electing rapists, stop forgiving them, stop apologizing for them, just stop. hold them accountable, goddamnit.
it feels pretty weird that so many other devs i know have tech-related ptsd, like that it's just standard to the profession. of course you'll develop stress tremors and debilitating triggers; of course you'll be used and abused; but we're building The Future!! by killing people. besides, the pay is good, right? why complain? 🤦♀️
the consequences of our craft require a higher standard, both for our practices and our treatment.
we value your privacy
which is why we monetize it
exposure to FL/OSS has profoundly impacted my perception of competition. i meet bizdev folks for whom everyone like them is a threat, and it just doesn't map for me. any good work, any project worth its salt, is only possible through collaboration. a morality of competition divides and degrades us; there is no reason to believe it is right or natural or inevitable.
i feel like free will is less some kind of physical fact and more a lived sensation. determinism is arguable on the basis of physical properties and natural laws, with nondeterministic caveats emerging from uncertainty principles, but by making conscious choices i experience free will whether or not it really "exists".
