the bourgeois push the narrative that "no-one will work for free" (food, housing, leisure, infrastucture by and for workers/dependents = "for free") because they won't lift a fucking finger for anything that won't make them a profit. fuck that. selfishness isn't "human nature," it's a bourgeois class value
I'm sharing this article because (despite being Americentric) it focuses on third-party election interference, not just in the US, but in other nations too, and challenges some common assertions:
"The findings challenge some common claims about FIEs. Only 15 percent of the FIEs included efforts to polarize people in targeted countries (defined as pushing on both sides of one or more political issues; for example, promoting both pro- and anti-gun control content). Other tactics were more common: About 65 percent of the efforts worked to defame specific individuals."
"Twitter and Facebook were by far the most popular platforms for these kinds of coordinated inauthentic behaviors. Of the cases we identified, about 83 percent used Twitter as a tool, while about 50 percent used Facebook."
hi everyone, i feel shitty making this post but to be honest, with groceries, HRT, dog/cat food and other bills piling up it's really starting to feel like we're continually falling deeper into a hole we can't climb out of. we need $600 total but i'm not expecting anything near that. even getting like $60 would probably be enough for me to get my tags renewed to start uber stuff again!!! thanks in advance
@garbados I've worked on the resesrchy side of tech for much of my career, and this really resonates because by nature research applications need researchers to create and use them. yet the instant something you make seems to be worth something, the company wants to take it from you and try to make it automated, or at least maintained by less expensive employees. "brain dump", "hand off", "mentorship", "pair programming" all become co-opted to this end.
a movie about a tech consultant hired to finish skynet while the union strikes to kill the project. as they read and patch and polish the source, they only understand part of the system. they get inklings of what it is this tech does -- things not fundamentally different from palantir's tech, or ICE's, for whom the protag has also consulted. as it dawns on the viewer what this thing does, how it does it, and to what a brutal extent, the protag remains unaffected. this is what they do. it is what they have always done, and it has always taken care of them. each day a private train carries him underground to work, past the picket line where rubber bullets fly through protest signs.
@antifuchs it's a pleasing fiction they can sell one another. buying from charlatans an immortal philosopher king in the final abdication of their stolen power.
fondly remembering that time when I just got my green card a few years ago and thought "hey let's learn a bit about the history of the US", went to a barnes and noble, and asked for a history book, explaining my situation; and the person there went "hmm do you want an actual history book or do you want to pass the citizenship test" and I was like "??? I guess I want a real history book?? what does that mean" so they gave me A People's History of the US and it was pretty good
Ok so on that note... does anyone in the Portland OR area have spare progesterone they’d be willing to give me? (Natural progesterone, not progestin.) My doc didn’t respond this week and my EDS joints can’t take this anymore
