Begonias are forest floor plants and some are highly specialised for low light conditions. In the darkest places, they have metallic blue leaves.

The colour comes from iridoplasts – a special type of chloroplast for capturing as much light as possible. They work by having many tiny surfaces which absorb light. An accidental side effect is that any light that reflects back gives the leaves an iridescent blue sheen.

A similar reflection effect causes the blue colour in Morpho butterfly wings.

    • They call me Rick 😎
    • elomatreb :blobpats:

@elomatreb @rick_777 A few projects do implement it but most of those that do only have a couple of users.

The C2S API is easier to implement the S2S API. So much so that at one point when we were running out of time in the SocialWG we considered *only* publishing the C2S API because it's such an easier deliverable. The main reason it hasn't happened is that the S2S API became popular and the C2S didn't. Inertia.

I have written a #guide to help people who want to run their own fedi instance but don't know where to start. It covers the basics of networking, use of command line, Linux system administration, just enough to get you started.

So if you would like to run your own #Mastodon or #Pleroma instance but you find you don't know enough to follow the tutorials, then this guide is for you.

    Comments welcome!

Gonna keep it 💯: The biggest threats to journalism right now are tech monopolies & concentration of ownership.

    Healthy democracy *requires* high-quality journalism.

W/o a wide range of independent outlets & the revenue to sustain them, our democracy will continue to crumble.

@kylerankin duplication is fine. Competition is good. Tertiary is also fine.

The nice thing about Free Software is that even duplication can involve reuse or at least working together for compatibility.

What I don't see accounted for in some #degrowth scenarios is how one copes as an isolated high tech wage laborer who can't simply make their own clothes or grow a garden without a lot of help. A lot of us are #deskilled in this way. I could sew years ago; no more, not without in-person mentoring.

After decades of forced specialization of skills in a #capitalist economy, not to mention #disabilities, I'm lucky I can make my own dinner.

Hey, so my company is looking for a freelance frontend engineer who:

    1. Knows at least React
    2. Optionally would be great if they knew jsonapi.org
    3. Optionally would be great if they knew a little bit about server side node.js
    4. Can work in a slow paced enterprise-style environment
    5. Can deal with a project that was originally built by people very new to react
    6. LA would be nice, but remote is welcome.

The contract is initially about a month's worth of work.
