Makerspaces in crisis zones are already helping people around the world: Puerto Rico, Haiti, Nepal.
Instead of waiting for expensive western supplies in makeshift tents, the survivors can get tools and start building new houses and infrastructure immediately. This not only makes the help /cheaper/ but also allows the people to feel more empowered and in control, less prone to long-term traumas.

@rick_777 key points I remember is that it covered, for instance, a variety of types of crutch features such as single post or a rocking chair bottom or different armpit rests and why you might want a particular feature
It also covered local materials such as using gourds for wheels on a walker

@rick_777 UN has docs on building mobility devices ( crutches, wheelchairs, etc ) from locally grown resources
Lots and lots of docs out there, need.to collect them and have ways to get updates

Any recommendations for an easy to use Mastodon client development library with lots of good examples?
I mostly don't care what language as at this point I will have to (re-)learn anything other than shell, but Python or Perl would be slightly more useful for me

By the way: Open Library lets you check out books, including by current authors. Some of them have a wait list, but you still support authors. And some of them are off copyright and therefore free:
You don't even need a local library!
