Fair point, Brad.

Nevermind, I’ve just been kicked out of the list for briefly using his scooter without permission.

You'll be interested to know that my standing fluctuates way more than I care about it.

I was ready for my kid to never tell me how he felt about me, but I wasn't ready for them to give me live updates on my standing in their Top 3 Grownup list. Turns out imitating a chicken with my kid's arms bumped me one place, who would have guessed?

Thanks for the tip, I remember looking into the Fairphone but unfortunately there's no availability in the United States.

I always have a faint feeling of danger every time I use
screen(1) on #Linux. Because it is meant to be a seamless virtual terminal, there are no visual hints about the keyboard shortcuts required to leave a session for example. Even after pressing Ctrl+a, there's no indication screen is in command input mode, so it always comes as a surprise and a relief to me that the next command actually does what I expected.
It's a sense of dread similar to using vim(1), but at least vim shows the command as it's typed. On the other hand it's always very confusing when I forget to enter input mode and start typing text.

Deep Rock Galactic is hiring!
Since the recent Free Weekend on Steam, I've had a lot of fun and eventually purchased Deep Rock Galactic. Meant to be played in co-operative, its Solo mode is not to be outdone with the presence of a semi-autonomous drone at your side.
These days, I'm available to play between 8:30 PM-10:30 PM EST, holler if you'd like to team up! @clay oat and I have had a blast so far!

Thanks for the tip, I do want to replace my daily drive that is nearing the end of its life, I don't have much use for such a toy. I'd rather not keep feeding the existing tech beasts so that's why I was looking at alternatives, but it doesn't suit me if it's either too rugged like the Pinephone is advertised or too precious like the Librem is priced.
-
I get it, but I thought that if I stay within the OS operating parameters, I can use PureOS as well as iOS or Android. But the Pinephone explicitly demands Linux familiarity which I don't have.
-
Thank you for the recommendation, what OS are you using on it?
-
So it looks like it would work, but also I read this on the Pine64 website:
Beta Edition PinePhones are aimed solely at early adopters. More specifically, only intend for these units to find their way into the hands of users with extensive Linux experience.
And while I have some experience with headless Linux hosting, I have absolutely no experience with regular Linux usage either on Desktop or mobile.

I thought it wasn’t available for US carriers?

We’re in March, otherwise known to me as the Worryingly Warm month for several years now.

So I got answers from the Purism customer support. They plan on selling batteries as long as they sell the Librem 5 and they aren't planning on discontinuing the Librem 5. For the screen repairs, I would have to ship the device to them.
All these answers make me more likely to get one, but I still have trouble with the price tag of $1,300. I understand Samsung, Google and Apple devices price are subsidized by the subscription services they are offering in parallel and so they're able to lose money on hardware, but $1,300 is still a lot of value to physically have in my pocket.
I think I would be more comfortable with a refurbished older Apple model, there would be less of a worry of losing/breaking it because the replacement cost would be lower as well.
