Did you know that for your largest foodstuff record attempt to be recognized by the Guinness Book, it needs to be completely eaten on the spot?
No waste. đ
None of our apartment building floor neighbors have ever seemed interested in being more than passing acquaintances, except this woman living with her partner and their 3-year old daughter weâve seen growing since she was a newborn.
However, a few months ago, she reported to my partner that her partner hit her once at the height of a heated argument. Within days, she moved out with her daughter to a place she wouldnât disclose to us so that we couldnât accidentally tell her now ex-partner who stayed behind.
We thought he would move out once the lease was up, and he did, to the next door on the same floor. So we keep bumping into each other in or out the elevator, and itâll now be awkward until either of us move out of the building.
And now our random encounters will always remind me how unfair that his mistake ended up costing his ex-partner a ton and us a friend, while he gets to carry on with his life seemingly unperturbed.
I've now received 3 separate emails asking me to sell my potential share of the upcoming Fluence Network cryptocurrency airdrop. This project aims at rewarding the "~110,000 developers who contributed into open source web3 repositories during last year" according to the project webpage. In order to do this "Public keys of selected Github accounts were added into a smart contract on Ethereum" which they stored in a single file hosted on AWS that their own "install" script fetches in order to generate proof of GitHub account ownership.
So you can check any GitHub account eligibility on the Fluence website, of course, but you can also obtain the conveniently complete list of 108,615 eligible GitHub accounts to spam with your stupid cryptocurrency acquisition request. I've pulled down my email address from my public profile in the hope that it will stem the tide, but that's yet another possibly well-meaning Web3 project that ends up abused within seconds of its inception because of poorly thought-out process.
Also I never contributed to any web3 repository, so I'm vaguely curious how they compiled this list of accounts but not that much either.

Video game idea: First person action-stealth where the objectives become less specific and their location less precise as the main character unravels a global conspiracy that leaves them stranded from their initial tactical support. Starts with a hi-tech PDA with a laundry list of concise objectives, detailed map and GPS-accurate coordinates only to devolve into vague handwritten notes and crude napkin sketches for maps.
The tyranny of politeness
For car rides my partner uses Lyft in New York City, and when she travels for work in Texas she uses Uber because Lyft isnât as prominent there. And while she has a spotless passenger record in Lyft, she has âonlyâ an average of 4.3 stars in Uber, which is apparently enough in Texas to be rejected by drivers.
She wasnât sure of the reason behind this discrepancy until it hit her: she never engages in small talk with her drivers. And while in New York it is expected, even welcomed by drivers, it might earn you a bad mark in Texas where the US Southern fake friendliness is an unspoken social rule that can get you in trouble if you donât abide by it.
Do I need to point out that this fake friendliness reinforces the power dynamics already in favor of men, mostly white?

Me: Why did I stop watching Brooklyn 99? It was fun and good-hearted (despite the glorification of police).
Also me: It's only available to me on Netflix, which I canceled my subscription over the transphobic David Chappelle special.
