I fully agree with you, it is a very flawed democracy, it's very racist and it never stopped being so, the Union won the Civil War in name only. But it isn't authoritarianism yet, although it's the closest it's ever been at least post-WWII. -

You haven't mounted any argumentation yet but I will continue mine. I do not believe the USA is fully authoritarian because most of authority compliance isn't done directly by the State. For example there aren't many movies critical of the US history because I assume many projects were just passed on by producers because they estimated, possibly accurately, that they wouldn't bring as much revenue as military-pandering flicks.
And at no point in this decision a representative of the US government intervened, yet the mostly uniform culture result is indeed similar to a fully authoritarian country. However, this also means outliers and counter-culture can freely exist which is not a typical characteristic of authoritarianism.
I would also argue that the illusion of choice/freedom is also too high in the US to fully qualify as an authoritarian country. And I believe this has stayed constant even through Trump's mandate which was arguably the worst for personal freedom post-War.
Of course I'm curious about your viewpoint on this topic. -

Nah, I won't go there. Institutions are racist but there is a legislative process and three distinct powers even if they are more often willing to work together than not, except when Democrats are in power, ha ha. So the overall political bias is clear, but dissidence handling is less egregious than in Russia for example. -

This and the fact that the US is de facto a conservative military state with a weak democratic front. In a way it's impressive how this country hasn't turned authoritarian yet, but I guess McCarthyism made it sort of unnecessary by ensuring no relevant political force would be able to challenge the militaristic white supremacist institutions.
Sure, some faces change after elections, but what is interesting is the number of faces within the Federal and the State governments that don't. -
