@ashley Oh. Maybe I should have asked, what software are you using for your blog? :)

@deejoe The toughest part will be finding hardware that is Linux friendly. Reliable barcode scanners are high on my list right now. I would have thought that would be a no-brainer but....

    @deejoe

It does seem like that should be the case doesn't it?

I'm hoping I can find some easy solutions that work well, and then publish them on the web so that others that are interested might make use of them.

Often seems like an uphill battle, but I think that libraries could really start to make a difference. :)

Next project for switching the #library to Linux. Since our new #opensource ILS (Koha) is web based we can use a customized snap of Firefox to access it. This will allow staff to have a browser just for the ILS.

In order to make checkouts efficient we've omitted the browser asking which printer to use when checkout slips are printed. But it makes it tough when we need to print something else out.

Having Koha partitioned in an snap should solve stuff like this.

Many thanks to everyone who collaborated on the "alternatives to recaptcha" thread a couple of weeks ago.

I've now added a recaptcha alternatives page based on people's suggestions in the thread:

    Feedback welcome 👍

@libreoffice 6.3 was just released, and I find this new version very exciting for the range of new features, and performance + interoperability + usability improvements it brings. I think only the detailed release notes on the wiki do it justice: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/6.3

You'll just have to imagine this video fixed up with little "2.7's" running out of the tubes and Joe saying "Do not, my friends, become addicted to 2.7. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence!"

I seem to have been able to replicate Faronics Deepfreeze functionality in Linux with #ZFS and about 5 lines of bash script. :) One step closer to making our public computers Linux based. #Linux #libraries

Everyone cites Jean Paul Satre as having said "To believe is to know you believe, and to know you believe is not to believe." But no one cites their source! :/

What's the deal with quotations sites that don't cite the source of the quotation? #citation #documentation #librarylife

@Cobalt Ours had a rough year too. Luckily my wife has been planting a native flower garden in front of my library and she's started a bunch of extra rose milkweed we can use if we really need to. :)

Having mostly exhausted our supply of rose milkweed, I moved our two big boys on the the common milkweed last night. Was a little worried that they would like it as much. But that fear seems to be ungrounded. Pictures even include some rarely (at least in my experience) seen #caterpillar poop ! #monarch_caterpillar #nature #gardening

Coming out the other side of ILS transition shock. Can't wait to be done with #MLIS in December, so I can think about stuff.

    Thinking about today:
Using a snap of #Firefox on #Ubuntu to have a custom browser profile and icon specifically for #Koha #librarylife
