OTOH, there are vegans...
For some people, religion is a matter of their deepest values; those values indicate what sort of world they'd like to have, and what measures they think are appropriate to achieve their aims.
#TommyDouglas would be a good example of a Canadian politician whose policies were inspired by his faith.

Of course what really matters is what a poltician will do, not what she personally believes. "Better to be ruled by a wise Turk than a foolish Christian," as has been said.
Still a politician's beliefs are of interest.
For most people in modern Canada, religion is like a traditional cuisine: you learn it from your parents; to the degree you persist, it's out of habit or the influence of peers; you don't let it bind you to avoid something you want...

@ink_slinger True, it was completely foreseeable that Scheer would be asked that sort of question by not-friendly media, and he should have had a better response. But it's not clear that it made any significant difference in terms of votes: the people didn't trust Mr. Scheer to respect the status quo on such matters may not have been potential Conservative voters in any case.

Same thing for Mr. Singh; he seems to take his faith seriously, which I respect.

For me the *NP* is a daily read still, though its quality has declined. And #AndrewCoyne has always been a draw for me -- his classical liberal arguments are good for me to consider.
