#GospelToday (Lk 1:46-48): And Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
#GospelToday (Lk 1:41-42): When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
@keithzg@Fralambert@ink_slinger Stephen Harper was indeed very #conservative personally, maybe the most conservative political leader Canada has had in sixty years (limited interest in social conservatism, to be sure). But he ran a relatively centrist, incrementalist government. His ambition was to be the conservative Mackenzie King.
Paul Wells describes it well in *The Longer I'm Prime Minister*.
@bstacey counterpoint: organizing everyone to go to richard dawkins and while he's signing a book go "yeah i love your work, it was super good of you to make a word for those funny cat pictures with words on them! you're gonna go down in history for sure as the inventor of the funny cat pictures word!!! haha i love memes, have you seen the one where the cat wants a cheeseburger yet?" and watching him turn fifteen shades of red and begin screaming
@Fralambert@keithzg@ink_slinger First, it's not true that a vote for a candidate who has little chance of winning is a wasted vote in FPTP — more votes for the Greens make the other parties take the environment more seriously. They want you to vote for them next time.
Secondly, the Alternative Vote (AKA instant-runoff voting) would be a more obvious solution to Adam's concern that voting for the Green candidate would hurt the NDP candidate.
@keithzg What did they use for that sort of task back in the day? My understanding is that LaTeX was common in math/physics/economics, but perhaps your father was in another discipline.
It is /possible/ to make complicated documents in MS Word, but (for instance) I had to alter the Table of Contents manually to have the first page of Appendix B indicated as B-1. The resulting pdf had no bookmarks, so I had to create those by hand as well.
Both steps could be completely automatic in orgmode.
Submitted a 26 MiB report in pdf to Doc Control; 119 pages, of which I created about 22 in MS Word. The whole thing was assembled in Bluebeam Revu and then signed electronically in Notarius Consigno.
It would be so much faster to make complicated documents like this in #emacs. Easiest with #orgmode, but even plain #LaTeX would be easier than grappling with the tool chain in MS Windows.
