    1. Updated: After blistering critique, Peter MacKay denies he wants Andrew Scheer’s job
By Brian Platt from National Post
MacKay called Scheer’s social conservative values a 'stinking albatross' around his neck that cost the party the election

The most obvious reason to keep #AndrewScheer as leader is that the #Conservatives just had a leadership contest in 2017, and Mr. Scheer was the best canadidate. Does anyone really think it would be wise to replace him with the runner-up, #MaximeBernier?

As for #PeterMacKay, he has his strengths, but his deal with #DavidOrchard and the subsequent betrayal should preclude his becoming leader or Prime Minister.

"[S]ending Trudeau to Stornaway, if not political oblivion, would have been an extraordinary outcome for any leader in Scheer’s place... The degree to which Trudeau is reviled by partisan Conservatives might have clouded that reality."

Scheer ran neither a dreadful nor a terrific campaign. It is by no means inconceivable that he could run a better one, with a better platform, to much greater effect in the future

When it comes to the proper role of the state, the fundamental question is not, "What would be good for others?" or "What do others deserve?" or "What duty do I owe to others?"

The fundamental question is "What am I justified in forcing a third person to do for others?"

@ink_slinger In #NovaScotia, the beers were Schooner in the South, Keith's in the middle, and I think Moosehead in Cape Breton. (I invite @thurloat to correct me.) Here in Québec, Labatt 50 was surprisingly popular. In BC I remember Kokanee as being about as popular as Blue and Canadian.

@ink_slinger I miss the days when #LabattBlue and #MolsonCanadian were the dominant Canadian beers. My understanding is that Budweiser is now the top-seller, with Coors Light number 2. Not a step forward.

Let us be careful about our preconceived notions, and attentive to the facts of the case at hand.

I've found that going away made me better appreciate the virtues of where I had been; as for my problems, I guess I carried them with me in my bags.

That being said, I don't regret my wandering, or where I am now, even if the local politics are not especially congenial to me.

OTOH, for raising children, I often wish that my own parents were closer.

@nigelsezyarr We had a big march in Montréal a couple of weeks ago — I thought about participating, but I was busy at work. Then a day or two later they blocked traffic on my way home.

Anyway, I subsequently did research about the Extinction Rebellion movement. No very specific actions demanded alas: https://rebellion.earth/the-truth/demands/

It's fun to march and chant and feel that you're doing your part to save the world; but I'd like to see people saying, "Double the price of my gas."
