I disagree with #AndrewCoyne that the #Conservative caucus should oust #AndrewScheer; but I hope that they do expressly take the power to do so, per the Reform Act 2014.

In #canpol, backbenchers are far too dominated by the party leadership.

Is the alternative — a six-month campaign of internal bloodletting that at best results in a still longer leadership race, and at worst resolves nothing — any better?

Even completely arbitrary rules can be useful; there's no particular reason to drive on the right, and of course many do not.

"Modern #conservatism springs, not from a central idea or policy, but from an emotional disposition. Conservatives are first and foremost grateful for what we as a society have.

"This gratitude arises from an awareness of where we have come from. Poverty, disease, ignorance and intolerance are humanity's default condition."

"[O]nly a fifth of those who voted for someone other than the Tories was even theoretically open to voting for Scheer, and only three-quarters of those cite climate change as a top voting priority."

The #Tories ought to have a good #ClimateChange policy, but it won't help them much with voters.

I'm not as blown away by these findings as Loewen, Bernstein and the Star's headline writers seem to be. Equally valid interpretations would have been, 'Huge majority of non-Conservative voters were never going to vote Tory'

Do you send political tweets? You might be old.

    "The most 'prolific political tweeters
' — 73 per cent of political tweets, 29 per cent of tweets overall — were over age 50. A full 33 per cent of political tweets issued from tweeters over age 65."

    Not what I expected.

Do snaps and flatpacks have an updater the way that debs and rpms do? I suppose I could just go to both systems' sites (and appimage as well), but it is likely that someone in the Fediverse already knows the answer.

Firefox now blocks Facebook and other common trackers by default. That's pretty handy. I use Privacy Badger anyway, plus the Facebook Container plugin, but having trackers blocked by default, without plugins, is a good step forward.
