@dogtrax There's a small team of NRC researchers looking at this (myself, Helene Fournier, Heather Molyneaux and (maybe) Norm Vinson).

In addition, the el30 project is given research oversight by our Director, and is subject to NRC Research Ethics Board (REB) oversight.

@bryanalexander They can try to regulate behaviour. But the intent here is to try to regulate outcomes (ie., the actual sharing of these technologies with China). Which it can't, because it doesn't have the ownership to impact the outcome.

And yes, still a bad idea. With the possible outcome that the U.S. government would actually lose access to the technologies it's trying to regulate, since so many of them were developed (in whole or in part) in China.

@bryanalexander All of the technologies in the list mentioned in the article are the result of international cooperation, and are not uniquely nor even mostly American, so there isn't really the basis in ownership for an embargo, even assuming this would be in any way desirable (which, of course, it's not).

@jgmac1106 Sparkline was tricky, took me a few minutes to solve it, I don't edit wiki a lot, and so haven't internalized the idea of "create the link to the page, then click on the link to edit the page" method - the instructions don't mention this at all, I found a mention of it on your page (I was digging around pages looking for source to find examples).

@jgmac1106 Having a really difficult time with the logins, often they don't work. Can't log in to WebRing at all. Took numerous tries to get into Indieweb wiki.
