@Pyretta well, you can always have a look there or suggest it. For me that would be great but I don’t know what that would involve to implement, so I would try and see the feedback from the dev team.
@Pyretta That is not possible using my service as that would require code changes to Mastodon and I have no way to allow that in a way that doesn't cause breaking changes during updates. Sorry :|
@jonne Probably setting is the wrong word, it's just the way Mastodon is implemented. There is no way to change that without making major changes to the code. The only way to stop your instance from getting copying posts from remote instances is by blocking/suspending them in the moderation settings.
@tastytea Hi, I have many IPs, I would need to create a list because App Servers, Host servers and dynamic IPs can be used to communicate with remote instances. Also, they are not in ranges, most of them are random. So, if you want please either send me an email to info@masto.host or send me an email where I can send that to you. Thanks.
But like I said this is not a fail proof solution and can easily be worked around by Gab and I would recommend adding Gab domains to your block list anyway if you want to make sure those domains don't federate with your instance.
@Stoori that is CDN for the media files that generates it. But the CDN is optional and can be disable, the only thing I really use it is to speed up media loading for instances where users access is mainly far away from Europe (the place where I host)
Still, there is no ETA for that release or even if that will make it into production. Also, I am not fully aware of how the feature will work, only after that release I can give you a definitive answer.
@jonne I don't have an estimate that I can give you, sorry. I have other things that have higher priority. All I can say is that until September I will not have time to even look into it. So, if you have another solution to host Hometown, I would suggest going with it.
@codewiz I am not involved in the development of Mastodon and my knowledge on that area is basic. I would suggest you ask the dev community either here or on https://discourse.joinmastodon.org/ Still, a Mastodon instance will only federate with other instances where a user is following or is followed by. So, the number of federated instances can in theory be large but it rarely is. Plus, the federation is asynchronous, you can limit resources and have federation be delayed in peak hours @switchingsocial
