The problem of sharing too much info about yourself in those innocuous looking quizzes shared on social media

    https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/04/dont-give-away-historic-details-about-yourself/

“... in these informal surveys is that in doing so you may be inadvertently giving away the answers to “secret questions” that can be used to unlock access to a host of your online identities and accounts.”

Just watched "Building Open Source Communities"

    A superb talk by @ashfurrow

    http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/102858222

It's not just about #OpenSource, but also the realities of #programming, concerns managers might have, and the issue of reaching people with different points of view

There are a lot of myths dispelled, great communication strategies, and it's presented in a very approachable way

Even if you're not technical, there's a lot of very useful info here on building communities

    FYI if you use #Grindr

“Grindr Is Letting Other Companies See User HIV Status And Location Data”

    https://www.buzzfeed.com/azeenghorayshi/grindr-hiv-status-privacy

They’re sharing HIV status with the user’s GPS data, phone ID, and email

This is seriously messed up. Forget #privacy, that means they can precisely identify each user

@RussSharek So far, this is the most detail I’ve been able to find that’s verifiable. Straight from the horse’s mouth:

    https://www.blog.google/products/chrome/cleaner-safer-web-chrome-cleanup

Apparently, they’ve partnered with AV company ESET and incorporated scanning for malware into Chrome

There’s an awful lot of speculation floating about this already so I’d avoid any other sources until a trusted security researcher can shed more light on this

@RussSharek So far, it seems limited to Windows. I haven’t seen anyone mentioning the same on Linux or macOS. Also Chromium doesn’t seem to have that functionality so any version should be fine

@indigophoenix It’s “do as I say, not as I do” all over again. Google was very anti-VPN and anti-AV on their own platforms, but other platforms are OK I guess

TIL Chrome is scanning your files, including private folders, in the background as an anti-malware measure

    https://twitter.com/swagitda_/status/979477998142476289

There’s currently no “off” switch, but apparently the devs reassure that scans are local and not “cloud” based. But this still has consent and privacy implications

    @cypnk

In an era defined by the digital equivalent of everything you say being on the "permanent record", I can see how something supposedly ephemeral would be appealing.

Problem is, they are only short lived for the user.

I don't know what's scarier now, losing the past to /dev/null or having intentionally deleted things resurface later.
