I still don't know what I'm doing
The biggest difference between me today and me 20 years ago is that I'm OK with not knowing what I'm doing

FYI, when sharing a link, check if the following are present in the URL
utm_content
utm_medium
utm_source
utm_campaign
#sm.( followed by random string)These are “engagement trackers” and they can reveal your source for the URL
Consider the #privacy implications if you include them. They’re not needed for the website you’re visiting to actually show you the content

I'm seeing a disturbing trend toward automating or outsourcing moderation on even small communities and forums
They either try to find some kind of plugin (hello Akismet) or let some underpaid, overworked drones interpret what's acceptable behavior. Or even worse, they ignore it completely
I've been a forum admin for years and it's a lot of work. If you want it done right, you better pay attention to your community. There's no automated thing that's going to take the place of a human moderator

“Moving efficiently in the CLI”

This is a *very* handy graphic. I’m still stuck on arrow keys too because I don’t remember the shortcuts
(Caveat, these do depend on your particular shell and distro so do check that they work the same)

It's immensely satisfying to witness the confusion (and doubled rage) of someone yelling at you when they see "Non-judgment is only possible in intrinsic success"
Or "Quantum physics belongs to existential abstract beauty"
Or "The invisible serves irrational mortality"
Or even "Elephants are llamas"

So apparently, mastodon.social "forgets" past images after a certain period of time and those that don't leave the actual /media/ link are basically gone

This has happened to almost all of the older posts I've made months ago, which is a shame because I don't have original copies for a few of them

@jamey They fixed the response time issue in the original version of the web. Tim Berners-Lee called it “HTML” ;)
Seriously, most of the slowdowns aren’t even because of backend bottlenecks. It’s that they have to pull in dozens of (usually unnecessary) JS and CSS libs before the site even renders

Timex Sinclair 1000 from 1982 which ran the venerable Zilog Z80 CPU, clocked at 3.25MHz, came with 2KB RAM. The OS was Sinclair BASIC, which was actually pretty functional for its time
As far as I could find, at $99.95 when it came out, this is so far the cheapest "home computer" that isn't a mobile device to date
