I was off sick today (migraine this morning) but felt better this afternoon, so I have made a large pork pie for dinner.
Here it is straight out of the oven. I still need to pour the jelly in, but Iβll let it cool a little first.

There's a BBC4 Good Omens radio dramatisation, and they're playing it over the next couple of days.
There are three (of the six) episodes online already:
Thereβs a cat on my bed. Iβm now trapped.
It is cool and wet today, so a perfect day to be in the forge.
As such, I decided to make an artistic hook today to hang my linseed oil cloth from. It is a friction fit around one of the house support poles and I made it from reinforcing steel so as to use the pattern for the snakes scales.
As you can see, itβs quite harmless as it has no teeth ;-)
Mastodon Shortbread!
My lovely wife got me a one day one-on-one blacksmith session at Cracked Anvil Forge for my birthday last month. It was today, and a very productive day it was too.
I made a small tomahawk from half an old farrier rasp, folded and forge welded together, and a draw-knife from 100 year old buggy springs. Also a small piece for Dad for Fatherβs Day next month.
After the slot punch I thought Iβd make another hook, but halfway through changed my mind and made a long handled parfait spoon instead.
Ok, so it's not much, but it's the first fully forged #knife I've made. Made from an old mower blade, with the tang end folded and forge welded, then drawn out slightly.
Took a punt & quenched in water & tempered to straw by heating the back of the blade & waiting for the colours to run. Sharpened to 8000 grit.
Tang was heated and pushed into the handle, burning it's own hole, then epoxied for final fitting.
As I said, it's nothing special, but a start. #blacksmith #metalwork
Went downstairs, opened the screen door and something fell onto the step. Turns out, it was this little Spotted Velvet Gecko (a young one, about 8cm (3inches) long.
@lrshdl Yeah, we have 2.2ha of semi-rainforest, with a little bit carved out for the house and yard.
This is looking out the back door when during the rain.

RAIN! I didn't order rain! Had opened up the oven to air it ready for firing later today, and have had to dash outside and over the chimney.
My good friend, and fellow photographer, Mel Sinclair, has lost her house, and her dogs in a house fire this week. She is devastated (mostly at the loss of her dog, which is understandable).
A donation page has been set up here: https://www.gofundme.com/sinclair-house-fire-in-kenmore
If you have some spare dollars, she and her parents would greatly appreciate it.
