Candied popcorn and peanuts are choking hazards too. Wouldn't surprise me if they start selling empty boxes for safety.

@xj9 If Cracker Jack can't put toys in their candied popcorn& peanuts product, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Kinder eggs are banned.
. (I can't even complain. I am not willing to lose a grandchild to predictable and preventable suffocation.)

I sometimes start the crossword in our local paper, and occasionally finish it. I sometimes start a programming project, and occasionally finish it. #cruciverbalist #programmer

Do I know anybody here who (a) solves US-style crosswords with some regularity and (b) is at least kind of a programmer?

I don't think this is what you intended. But if it is, that's quite funny. And kind of sad, too.

Seems inefficient, and a waste of hardware resources. Just create an escape code for input, then you can type "00000000" instead of needing a third key for "Done".

@hj @sampo @DetectiveHyde This looks like the user interface for the world's simplest computer. Binary 1, binary 0 and a button for when you're done. No output needed; a computer is just a bunch of zeroes and ones anyway, right?

@allan I feel like whatever geoengineering ends up happening will come 15 years too late and will end up fucking the planet up worse than if we'd done nothing. Like, humanity might eke out an extra generation as a result, but we'll actually doom the entire biosphere instead of just ourselves. I'd love to be wrong, of course. I'd love to deus ex machina our way out of this nightmare (but also not, because then we won't address the root causes).

@allan writes: "alternatively extreme climate change will wreak enough havoc soon enough that it destroys our ability to continue pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and eventually everything stabilizes into a new normal." Yup also. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive, you know. /cc: @ink_slinger

Careful what you wish for! I grew up in Barbados. No windchill... but we more than make up for that with the humidity. And you think you know what humid feels like in Canada? Piffle. Barbados is a tiny island *surrounded* by water. Some days the humidity was so bad it almost felt like you could open the door of an air conditioned office, and physically *lean* against the humidity of the air outside.

I lived in the south for most of my life. They have windchill. In fact, the numbers are bigger! ;)
