The Green Party, both federally and provincially, identifies itself as "Socially progressive, fiscally conservative". So they're in favour of all the good leftist things, without bankrupting the economy to pay for it.

This is #Apartheid -- excluding certain people based on race or religion. The sign reads, in part "This passage is designated for Israelis only. It is forbidden to drive any non-Israeli through this checkpoint!" /cc @BryanLundukehttps://gs.jonkman.ca/attachment/52062
The government of Israel is occupying and settling territory that was set aside for Palestinians displaced by the creation of Israel in 1948. Palestinians are not allowed to use roads set aside for Israelis. A wall has been erected, not to keep Israelis out of the Palestinian territories, but to keep the Palestinians out of Israel. Palestinian olive groves are demolished for Israeli settlement areas. Palestinian homes are destroyed as collective punishment. https://gs.jonkman.ca/attachment/52058
There is the issue of #Apartheid. It may be the case that a country that only recently eliminated its policy of apartheid accepting the help of another country that's openly practising apartheid by colonialists against an indigenous population in violation of the 4th Geneva Convention and the UN Declaration of Human Rights is a worse ethical choice than running out of water.
The idea behind salaried employment is that I'm supposed to put in the time needed to get the job done.
If it takes more than 40 hours a week, I'm supposed to suck it up and deal with it.
But if I finish my work in less than 40 hours, or management doesn't give me 40 hours of work in a given week, I'm stuck sitting in the fucking office with fuck-all to do. But I still need to look busy to justify my place in the company payroll.
If guaranteed minimum income and universal healthcare were a thing, I think so many of my programmer colleagues would immediately take low-income sabbaticals to write high-quality good-ui users-first free and open source software that it would inspire tedious "how was it possible?!?" medium dot com thinkpieces for years and years
Sometimes I think it would be great to move to a Nordic country for all the glorious social democratic stuff. Then I realize I'm a monolingual anglophone who is uncomfortable with change and think, hmm, maybe I should just try to make that stuff happen in my own country.
