      Wenn Kolibri-Männchen ein Weibchen beeindrucken wollen, vollführen sie kühne Sturzflugmanöver. Die sogenannten Costa-Kolibris setzen zusätzlich noch besondere Geräusche ein. Sie spreizen im Sturzflug ihre Schwanzfedern. Diese beginnen dann im Luftstrom zu vibrieren. Dabei erzeugen sie ein markantes Sirren und Pfeifen. Die Costa-Kolibri-Männchen nutzen noch einen weiteren akustischen Trick. Sie richten die Schwanzfedern gezielt so auf das umworbene Weibchen aus, dass das Pfeifen bei ihnen wie mit einem Megaphon verstärkt ankommt. Das berichten Forscher im Fachmagazin Current Biology. Die Wissenschaftler hatten die Kolibris für ihre Studie in einem speziellen Windtunnel fliegen lassen. Die sirrenden Sturzflüge erfassten sie mit High-Speed-Kameras und Richtmikrofonen.
