♲ @cj@mastodon.technology: I don't care about the software, I care about the people.
It's one thing to tell me go-fed/activity as #ActivityPub software is faulty on technical reasons. Or politely poke fun of how few users there are. I am ok with this, it is a software thing. It can be fixed.
But it's entirely another thing to try to tear *me* down over it's lack of users, or say I am undeserving of praise, or that I am holding the AP ecosystem back because of this library. This is a people problem that can't be fixed.
@lightweight@Greg yeah the lack of portability of accounts and data between instances seems like a real weakness of the #OStatus / #ActivityPub standards. It's why I keep circling back to #Zot as a more forward-looking approach, and wonder why almost nobody is trying to support it.
We recently reached out to the SocialHub.network admins to talk about helping to run the #forum in exchange for expanding the scope to better fit our focus, ie #federated web more in general than just #ActivityPub (even though it's a big focus atm for everyone).
If you don't know what #SocialHub is; it's a #Discourse forum for ActivityPub discussion, mostly so far focusing on #Pixelfed, #Prismo, #Funkwhale and #Anfora projects. The current admins want to pass the maintenance on due to time constraints.
There has been some heated debate whether #Feneas is the right organization to host this community. If you want to contribute to the discussion, to give your thoughts pro/against, please feel free to do so: socialhub.network/t/feneas-han…
We're in the process of writing a #FOSS manifesto partially in response to the concerns noted in this discussion.
If this doesn't work out, we'll need to ponder whether we then want to run a separate Discourse instance or do we just ditch the idea of a generic federated web forum for now.
@dpwiz is it currently possible to run a social app over #GNUnet that could interoperate with #fediverse servers using either #ActivityPub or #Zot? Is it possible to add something to either or both that would make it possible? That might make it more attractive to potential early adopters. @zig
♲ @jaywink@diaspodon.fr: Yay! Officially first #Mastodon -> #Socialhome follow 😁 Next: Returning an accept, then outbound follow towards the #ActivityPub side.
* centralized - they say they want to decentralize in the future and talk about #Solid from Tim Berners Lee (that's far from ready), but not #Activitypub. * not clear which parts are open-source.
They claim to respect privacy, but I see no way how to check that.
I'm also wondering how they are going to be financed in the future. I see crowd-funding now, but they are specifically not non-profit, cause they want to keep the option open to raise money for future growth. In other words; they are looking for venture capital.
