And I'd have to stay in #Prague a week to make it the cheapest (weird airfare behavior).

So #Mastodon has announced they are in the process of removing #OStatus support their codebase. Hopefully this will light a fire under the collective arse of whoever is managing the #GNUsocial project, and the dozen or so #fediverse instances still running it, and get #ActivityPub support finished and merged.

I'm proposing a new version of a metadata document specification for servers in the #federated #web. This aims to collect the good and avoid the bad of the previous iterations, and to be flexible enough for a large part of the federated web to implement it.

In my quest to build an #ActivityPub based simple, no-frills bulletin board / forum system, I've gone ahead and pushed up my work-in-progress #golang ActivityPub single server framework: apcore. It has no README (yet) and still has a lot left TODO.

I hope to use it in the future to launch multiple small ActivityPub applications leveraging common serving, storing, and moderation features. But new #ActivityStreams vocabulary can be readily innovated upon.

@wion The reason for having info-sharing and organizing discussions here is the same as your reason for having watercooler chat here, you don't need to get everyone to join one forum/ chat room for every topic they might be interested in. #ActivityPub includes protocols for federated forums, which is possible in OStatus using !groups. Projects like #Prismo and #Lemmy are trying to build a federated replacement for silos like #Reddit/ #HackerNews using AP. These will improve archiving even more.

It's impossible to know for sure, but it's unlikely. People were engineering federated social networks for decades before Mastodon started and that would have continued with or without it. Folks from projects like libre.fm, pump.io, MediaGoblin, and Pleroma, would have worked on #ActivityPub with or without Mastodon.
