@mpjgregoire @ink_slinger I agree. Shorter is better. Whichever works best is good for me. :)

The only argument I can think of for #cdnpoli is that more people might expect conversations to be there. So using it might mean that more people are in on the conversation, and that we don't loop ourselves out of new conversations that start as more twitter refugees come on board.

@mpjgregoire @michela I could get on board with #canpol. #cdnpoli was the norm on Twitter, but there's no reason to stick to that just because it was the norm elsewhere. #canpol is slightly shorter, which is nice.

@ink_slinger Oh. Cool! I'll definitely use the #Cdnpoli one, if that works. :)

@michela If we're agreed on the #cdnpoli hashtag (rather than the longer #canadapolitics or #canadianpolitics I've occasionally seen), then I'll try to remember to tag my relevant posts.

Wow. Not much on #Cdnpoli in Mastodon yet.

I'm hoping that the recent #deletefacebook and twitter ugliness brings more of the conversation here.

NDP promised to implement a national pharmacare if elected, so now the Liberals are announcing that, actually, they're going to do it if re-elected. Typical.

I listened to Singh's speech on the weekend and it was a good speech. It definitely seems to signal a shift leftward, which is not what I initially expected from Singh. This is a good analysis of what was in the speech, and what was missing.

In #Canada the federal electoral districts contain about 100,000 people, of which around 65,000 are voters (and of which only about 35,000 vote). I think that's under-represented: If the single Member of Parliament that represents the district spent 265 days a year, 8 hours a day with his constituents, he'd be able to spend only about 2 minutes/year with each one. That's not adequate representation, and it's even worse since there's only about 200 working days in a year and the MP spends about half of that in his parliamentary office in Ottawa, away from the constituency. But there's always a huge outcry when the electoral boundaries are adjusted for population increases, resulting in more districts, and so, more politicians. Improving representation by increasing the ratio of politicians to people is just not politically acceptable. #CdnPoli

"The problem with antifa isn’t its use of violence but that its violence is both insufficient and unexamined."

This is a much more nuanced (and pro-violence) article than I expected from the Walrus.

I don't agree with all of it, but it was an interesting read, especially considering the source.

Singh wasn't my first (or second) choice, but I think he has potential to move the party in a new direction - which could be good or bad.

This column from Colby Cosh, about the fact that Edmonton isn't "reeling" from Saturday's alleged terror attack and, in fact, it didn't even cross his mind to blame this on all Muslims is pretty accurate and better reflects the reality of living in Edmonton than any hot takes about how we need to "stand together." We already do, and to think we wouldn't seems absurd.
