Hey, please help keeping @Gargron and all the other #mastodon instances being able to host without implementing #uploadfilter by calling your member of the European parliament and convincing them stand against #Article13 in the upcoming vote for the #copyright reform.
Please reshare widely and **take action**. This has the potential to endanger the #internet as we know it, making it more and more composed of only large platforms.
As an antidote against the shitty US Patent protection of house plants, here’s another picture of our #Hippeastrum corner. Currently blooming in that large pot: 15. About to open: 3 more. But please don’t forget to speak up against and vote against intellectual property everywhere: copyright and patent is overreaching and overreacting every day. It is never in our best interest. #copyright#patents#photography
Regardless of the open points, it’s now for certain: The final text of Article 13 will force the internet platforms that we all rely on to express ourselves online to install upload filters and/or otherwise restrict our ability to post and share content. We can’t let that happen. Your elected representatives in the European Parliament will have one last chance to reject Article 13 when it comes up for the final vote just before the next EU elections. Get ready to reach out to your MEPs!
I do like Harold Lloyd better, but his ideas on #Copyright and protecting his films have landed him in obscurity compared to other artists who were more lenient (or lost their copyright due to interfering management)
This "public domain day" used to happen every year until 1998, when 20 years was added to copyright terms for no real reason other than that large companies like Disney wanted it.
Copyright currently lasts 95 years in most countries, but until the late 1970s it was 56 years, or even shorter if copyright wasn't actively renewed.
When will we start calling major corporations zaibatsus? All this has no positive impact on individuals, so this is companies battling thru legislation.
During a conversation with a good friend of mine: "When (#european) #copyright gets an overhaul, what should it say?" "Easy: Every work is always licenced under CC-BY." "Realisticly..." "Okay, copyright ends after 10 or 25 years, when nostalgia would kick in" "Deal!" #creativecommons
