    Net-snmp has a new version out so this weekend I'll be getting the new #debian packages ready for it. Looks like the openssl API problem is fixed and a bunch of patches also won't be needed.

    I've decided I'll use the same workflow for patches as the other packages I maintain. I hate patch-queue or I'm too stubborn to learn a different way

    I find it amusing how people still think Ubuntu is the most user-friendly #GNU distro with #Linux in it, and that the #Debian installer hasn't changed since 1990. What about #Trisquel? Or #Mint? Or #Elementary? Or any one of a hundred other distros that just as noob-friendly, use less resources idling, and have never bundled #AmazonLens spyware. Ubuntu is so last decade. Catch up people!

    Right now i came back to my origins, so i set up a VM with #Debian #Unstable (so it's rolling) with #MATE desktop.

    @dchsg wegen WLAN: es geht los mit: welche Zusatzpakete (Firmware, evtl. Kernel-Modul) muss der Anfänger auswählen für sein spezifisches WLAN-Interface? Da muss der Anfänger herausfinden, welcher Chip in dem WLAN-Stick oder im Notebook drin ist. Dann das passende Paket ermitteln. Intuitiv ist das für einen Anfänger nicht.

    Dann kommt dazu: wenn der Anfänger _nur_ WLAN besitzt (fremder Hot-Spot oder kein LAN-Kabel zur Hand), wie soll er dann das Paket herunterladen? Ich glaube nicht, dass die Nonfree-Pakete im DVD-Image enthalten sind.

    Evtl. bin ich aber nicht auf dem aktuellen Stand. Hab auch noch nie den grafischen Installer ausprobiert. Ich schätze aber, dass es diese Problematik noch gibt.

    Debian has an incredible library of 51,000 different pieces of free software. ISS (international space station) apparently uses Debian Linux.

    @kame Also da habe ich unterschiedliche Meinungen im Forum gelesen. Die Meisten nutzen #Debian aber ebenso gerne, eben halt nur mit besagter Trennung! Ich glaube da verschaffen sich eben besagte laute Meinungsbilder überdiemaßen Gehör was ihnen aber nur bedingt bis gar nicht zugestanden bleibt. Einzig #systemd und der damit verbundene Aufwand hält mich bisweilen auch in bestimmten Belangen! Gäbe es beispielsweise direkt #OpenRC als ebenso mögliche Einsatzmöglichkeit wäre das toll. Hier könnten #Hyperbola und #Debian sogar miteinander arbeiten! Viele Init-Skripte sind ja bereits dort (Hyperbola) vorhanden.
