I've just published another minor release of the #Friendica Directory project, it turns out the Hungarian translation was available but not enabled in the language selector, thanks to @Úr Balázs for the good catch! git.friendi.ca/friendica/frien…
If I understand correctly, this is the chain of causality:
Encourage users to follow as many accounts as possible to boost Engagment™.
Timeline becomes impossible to read, filter it.
Send notifications about posts that may have been missed because of the filter.
This is completely irrelevant for me since I only follow people I want to read everything they publish, and I'm doing so either on #Friendica or on Twitter where I regularly have to switch back to "Latest tweets first" from the non-chronological filtered timeline.
♲ @tio@social.trom.tf: I have tested many RSS Readers, and there are some great ones, but Friendica also acts as one and does a fantastic job at. This was one of the features that convinced me to move form Mastodon to Friendica. The fact that I can follow anyone on the fediverse + any RSS feed....is just too good! I keep on saying this, but Friendica is really underrated. #tromlive
@musicman I know #django moved to LiberaChat, but #python is still debating it. #haskell is moving also. I also checked #nim, but I did not see any discussion about moving.
Neither Evan nor Alex have expressed an opinion about moving #pump.io, so I suspect it will remain on Freenode. I checked #hubzilla, but there doesn’t appear to have been any discussion about it. I left #friendica after someone set up a really noisy bridgebot, so I don’t know whether they’re moving. I also left #mastodon
Freenode is the official IRC host for the GNU project, so a lot of GNU software is awaiting a decision from GNU.
(All hashtags above are names of Freenode IRC channels / rooms, some of which are in the process of moving to Libera.Chat or OFTC.)
The time may come for !gnusocial, #Friendica, #Mastodon, and other Fediverse software to move their #IRC channels to a different network. Hopefully, we can discuss and co-ordinate that move.
I’m still looking for a low priced annual payment VPS provider that has a somewhat lower risk (of closure, hardware failure, etc) than most LEB hosts, so I can launch temporary testing instances (for example, the upgrade of GS to the #ActivityPub enabled 2.0 branch, and looking at how well #Zap, #Pleroma, #Friendica instances fit into the !FNetworks roadmap).
I’m also considering adding a Federati #Pump.io instance, but I need to talk with the Pump.io project about SSO options. Since they use Node.JS, I’d want it on a completely separate VPS, with some restrictions to prevent incidents. Also, if utilization is too low, that would likely close.
Currently, everything is still coming out of my pocket.
I've seen the introductions tag more frequently on Mastodon, and since we can now interact with Mastodon users and pin posts in #Friendica, I finally took the time. I think I wanted to explicit my social media policy more than anything else, but I felt it was a good fit for an introduction post.
My social media policy is to read absolutely everything my follows post. As a result, I heavily curate my follow list that will never grow bigger than what it is now mainly for time constraints. Additionally, I don't automatically follow back and unfollowing isn't personal, your content just doesn't fit with my social media usage, no hard feelings.
I like liberally to signify I read, enjoyed or sympathize with a post without having anything meaningful to contribute further.
I also block liberally, users and whole instances alike, the world is too big and my time is too limited to give a second chance to bigots, racists, misogynists and transphobes (including TERFs). I host my own single-user node which makes any moderation decision easy.
My own editorial line is mainly about good-natured humor and social justice. Tone-wise, I do not mind aggressiveness but I do mind who it is targeted at. I do not tolerate edgy shitpost, and neither bad faith nor logical fallacies no matter how soft-spoken they are.
My personal interests revolve around #programming (mainly #PHP for #Friendica ), #videogames and recently #LEGO, but I'm curious about everything and have trouble specializing in anything and don't follow the latest news for any specific topic.
My patience for someone wanting to make #Friendica into something it isn't and realistically can't be eventually ran out and I blocked them.
♲ @hypolite@friendica.mrpetovan.com: With each new #Facebook scandal like the recent WhatsApp-related one, the #Fediverse welcomes a wave of new users and admins. #Friendica gets its tiny share of the newly converted to decentralized social media. Some stick, most don't, but there's always this one guy (it's always a man) whose first few messages on GitHub are to angrily complain that Friendica isn't user-friendly enough and that it is spelling doom for a project they didn't know the day before and for the #Fediverse as a whole.
This has been going on ever since I joined the project in 2016, and we're still here. 🤷♂️
