    Micro$oft is buying GitHub?

    A home for countless open source projects and their source code, GitHub, has been shown interest from M$.

    Thanks to GNOME Project and Debian Linux guidance has been shed on how to prepare for the mass FOSS migration. CLA (Contributor License Agreement) has been removed, features has been added.

    GitLab can optionally be self hosted, too.

    I was already planning on moving to #GitLab, but the recent acquisition by Microsoft has finally made me jump over. There is no way I will ever trust them with anything.

    @sina @staticsafe @bob @Ninjatrappeur @King @thanatos @krozruch I only remember seeing a handful of #Gogs sites in the wild, and they didn't having any obvious tools other than the repo. I assumed this hadn't changed, and that #Gitea (being a fork) was pretty similar. Queue quippy movie references about the pitfalls of assumptions ;) My key point was #GitLab is a pretty feature-compete GH clone, and they aren't

    @King
    @thanatos
    @krozruch good points all. I realize now I came off like a bit of a #GitLab fanboy ;) But I was focusing on the needs of people who would be part of any GH exodus that's brewing. I guess my assumption is that anyone who doesn't need the full GH/ GL stack, and is confident to self-host, is already running something like #Gogs/ #Gitea.

    Wow I didn't know you can natively sync a personal install of #GitLab to #GitHub. Basing your platform on open standards really helps compatibility eh?

    @staticsafe keep in mind that #Gogs / #Gitea will give you a #Git repo at a web address, they don't give you the full suite of tools that GH includes (Issues, wikis, websites etc). #GitLab uses 4GB of RAM because it does. Rather than every single project hosting their own #Gogs/ #Gitea, it makes more sense to me for there to be lots more community-run GL instances (ideally federated into a meta-GL):

    @maiwann D'un côté, cela illustre le danger qu'il y a à faire dépendre le développement du logiciel libre d'une seule entreprise. Github, c'est le Facebook du geek. #Gitlab rUleZ.

    De l'autre, ce n'est pas trop grave. git étant un VCS décentralisé, chacun a sur son disque tout l'historique du logiciel. (Ce seraient les "issues", le gros problème.)
