While I've had trouble following #plume users via the plume interface, I've discovered two interesting things about trying to follow plume stuff from #mastodon:

1. Paste a plume user's profile URL into the mastodon search box, and you can follow the user.
2. Plume posts can be in categories. You can paste the URL of a category into the mastodon search box and follow any new posts in that category.

For example, this #tokipona category: https://plume.mastodon.host/~/TokiPonaAConlangAndItsSpeakers

@Michcioperz your comment about going beyond "instanceism" seems very sympatico with IndieWeb thinking. As I understand it their focus is federation between bespoke homepages, rather than using off-the-shelf packages like #GNUsocial or #Mastodon.

I wish #Mastodon had a pause button on each timeline. Scrolling down a bit "pauses" it, I guess, but it keeeps blinking and changing the scroll bar position slightly

Really, #mastodon's primary use is as a high-volume shitpost platform.

Which is too bad, because I'm not really a fan of shitposts.

@plantsmydude a good way to get rolling on #mastodon is to do an "introduction" toot (oh yeah, posts are called toots :) ).

Basically just a toot with the hashtag #introduction, some text about you and a list of hashtags of what you're into, looking for, etc. Click the #introduction hashtag to see some examples.

(hashtags matter a lot on Mastodon because it's the primary way of finding things, as you'll see).
